Okay wellif you guys think a koleor scopas is better I'll trie that I was just getting mixed opinions so all options are open I do like the scopas will he be okay in there I really want what is best for the fish and ill post som pics when it's all up and running

My advice as well as Todd's would be to buy fish that can live there entire lives within the tank you originally put them in. By the time the tang will outgrow your tank, the dentist's tank may be completely stocked and he may not want to take your tang. They(tangs) grow fast, it will take several months it's not an overnight deal.

Yes a scopes should work. They are listed as the "brown tang" in the link I gave you earlier. A 4ft 75 gallon tank is the minimum for them.

Ok well I bought the 90 instead of the 125 bc it in my room and I don't have any where to put it so I'll stick with the scopas

I hate going against the grain in these type threads but I have kept several scopas and several purple tangs (I believe yellow tangs fall into this category as well) and once established I found very little difference between the two. I have had murderous purples and placid scopas but have also had the reverse be true.

I personally think a 90 is right on the cusp of keeping a purple long term, it could go either way. If the purple is the only tang in the tank and the dominant fish, I believe your chances for success will increase.

All that being said, I do think a kole tang or a tomini is almost a sure thing when it comes to not presenting aggression issues down the road. Not to mention those guys are workhorses when it comes to controlling algae. All in all though, this is just one guys opinion and I would suggest listening to many before making your decision.

Have you thought about a mimic? would fit fine in your 90 . loved mine until I lost him in a tank swap.

I think a scopas would outgrow a 90 gallon just like a purple tang IMO.

Picking the tang is just the start of what you need to do.

1. You have to pick the correct tank mates..........this is by far the most important. A tang is not going to tolerate a fish that competes for it's food source or wants to hang out in his sleeping/ hiding area. He's going to but heads with other aggressive fish, yet wimpy type fish will not work either because they will be itimidated.

I would come up with a list & whittle it down to what you want.

2. You need to create an aquascape that is open on all four sides of the tank & also a few tunnels for him to travel through/hide.

3. Lightly stocked means 4-5 fish including the tang & these are all dither type fish or rock dwellers.

My stock is probably medium I want to have a blue dot jawfish a smaller tang maybe a mimic i like the color or a scopas two percula clowns a pinkspott goby and a mandarin

I have a 125 and decided not to have a Purple because it would kill any other tang. Kole Tangs are great though. They have alot of nice coloring, keep your glass clean, are kinda purpleish. They also would work in your tank very nicely!

I used to have a kole but I like the mimics and the kole so I'll have to choose
