Pushing the limits

Has anyone pushed the limits with housing tangs . I currently have a large sailfin tang , scopas , yellow ,yellow belly hippo , normal hippo . Also have another yellow and maculiceps in my frag tang . I want to introduce them to the big reef with out them fighting to the death

to me, "pushing the limits" only adds stress. not sure why you would want to do that.

You failed to mention the tank size they are all going to be housed in together? It will need to be big 600+g especially since you named off 4 tangs that get over 1.5ft.

I'm rather curious how big this tank is as well because that is quite a list of large active fish.

lots of people push the limits. I'm sure more people push the limits than those that play it safe and don't push. That being said, it's like speeding. You go a little over the limit and you probably will do okay. You go a lot over and it's just a matter of time until something horrible happens.

I have a 240 display 60x36x25 the biggest fish is a sailfin about 6-7 inches and the rest under 4

Maculiceps 5in he is in the frag tank 36x24x12 but only there to get him fat and healthy till I introduce him in the population maybe month from now

You are badly overstocked in that tank.

While conservative wisdom would suggest that you are pushing the envelope, I say go for it. Just know your risks, as you obviously do. The hobby isnt advanced by people who play it safe.

[puts on fire resistant suit] My tank is similar in size (72x28x30), and I plan to have 6 tangs (yellow, vlamingi, hippo, tomini, sailfin, naso, kole, and powder blue) in it in addition to 2 clowns, diamond goby, 2 firefish, filefish, flame angel, cowfish, niger trigger, bluethroat trigger, longnose haw, sixline, chromis, copperband, bangaii, and a pajama cardinal. I'm going to add fish slowly until I hit water quality or temperment issues.

Look at a lot of "experts" tanks online. They're packed with fish.

Be ready to give up the Mauliceps and the 2 blue tangs. Keep nutrients down. Have a plan for the larger growers. Be responsible and watch for fights and you'll be fine for a while.

I do have a plan to upgrade later in the year to 500-700 gallon when we buy are new home and plumb it to storage room that will be a fish room behind the garage . Already have all the equipment I need except the the tank I will have it up and running before I tear down 240 corals will transfer first then fish also start mixing old and new water during water changes

"The hobby isn't advanced by people who play it safe." To this I will say the hobby isn't advanced by killing beautiful fish. A 240 is not a big reef to these fish, I hope you reconsider. There is no way this will have a good out come for several of your fish.

without addressing the overstocked issue.....two yellow tangs will not work 99% of the time.

He doesn't care. He is too busy showing he can do whatever he wants to, and advancing the hobby.

Here's a suggestion. Add fish for the tank you have now, not the one you might have.

I finally came to my sense and thanks for advice I'm going to set a 180 gal and slip up the fish for less stress and room for more corals as they grow
