Pygmy Possum Wrasse in a open top tank?

I am looking for a fish I can add to my 50 gallon ( 30" x 20" x 20" ) lps/sps tank open top tank.
It must be able to be compatible with a yellow multibanded pipe fish and a rainsford goby.
A lfs recommended a pygmy possum wrasse or a cryptic wrasse.
Is either a good choice?

Have a better recommendation?

Swissguard Basslet?

Possum Wrasse (3 different species). All are Awesome and compatible.

I know alot of wrasses tend to be jumpers.

With no aggresive fish in the tank, lights ramp up and dim on a controller, no people traffic, do you think one of these guys will stay in the tank?

ALL wrasses are jumpers; if spooked their instinct is to go upwards to escape danger. What's not instinct is having the surface less than 2' above them.

It might work for a while, but eventually something will spook him (real or perceived) out onto the floor.

If not a wrasse, do you have any suggestions?

Know anything about swissguard Basslets?

The question to ask is when will the fish jump, not of it will. Any fish can/will jump if a threat is there or percieved...

mine stay under neat the rocks and travels from one rock scape to the next, (Bare-bottom) never in open water. I don't have any other fish that hides down there, so I can't say for sure what will happen with what you have in your tank.

It's so much easier to just add a lid then try to find a fish that won't jump IMO, I've seen everything from large tangs to small gobies end up on the floor. I even had a 10" angel land by my feet at a LFS once.

I went with a rimless open top tank because I liked the look.
I tried a screen top and thought it ruined the look so I ditched it.

I've talked with 2 people today that had pygmy possum wrasses long term. One died in the tank after 3+ years. The other has been in a open top tank for 2 years and counting.
Both said that the possum wrasse seems to dive into the rock structure when alarmed rather than try to flee upward.

I also spoke with a lfs that has a couple swissguard basslets in stock. ($89) May take a drive tomorrow.
