Pylons Tank!

That's pretty funny. Yea, our idiots were glued to the tank right after the move, but the novelty has worn off. They have more important things to do, I guess :rolleye1:.

We'll see what happens when I get fish in there. I'm sure it'll wear off on her too, it'll just be fun to watch.

that's funny. I saw the "it finally happened" and a pic of a cat, and I thought the next pic would be of the cat inside the tank going after a snail or hermit.

My old cat used to walk around the rim of our 125g tall cichlid tank that we used to have. Never fell in. It was half covered by a glass top.

It's going well. I am going to do another series of test. I see more purple growth in the tank which is making me happy.
Alot of the algae has either died off or has been eaten.. in a couple weeks i'll have some money to add some of the first live stock to it.

Hey Buddy,

Now would be a real good time to get that sand swapped out. I'm telling you you're going to have all sorts of issues down the road with gravel that course trapping crap in it and throwing your levels off. I know it's a PIA, but trust me, it's going to be easier now than later.

Alright, do I just fill it with sugar sand or take it out completely?

I also noticed my first causality. an Astera snail didn't move much a about 5 days ago now over the last two days he hasn't moved at all.

Check your nitrates/phosphates. Snails hate both. If not then he could've been dud, and will simply now become a new home for one of your hermits. Yea, I'd pull it out completely. The problem is that the coarse sand will always make it's way to the top, and become a sediment trap. As far as for what to replace it with, that's entirely up to you, but if you do go with sand definitely the smaller the better.

Alright. I'll pull it out probly some time next week when I get money to replace it. I wanted something that my shrimp(when i got him) could dig it and have it not collapse in on itself.

I'm a little over due on testing. I will tonight and put up the results. I"ll try and get some pictures. My rock is starting to look like dalmatians, instead of black spots it's purple spots.

Also, astraea snails aren't tropical snails. That could also have an affect on it.

Ammonia 0
Kh 107.4
Ca (not charted)
for the calc I use the Red Sea calc pro test kit so if anyone is fimliar with it I used up 0.6 of the reagent c solution when it turned blue.

My cal is probly low because the chart starts at .74 = 370

I have some c Balance stuff I brought when I got the tank. I knew I wanted to keep corals so I got that. the directions are a big vague.
I suppose I'll have to work on the formula to get everything right.
Pics will come in a moment.

Here comes the fun stuff.

Hopefully when all this snow melts I'll be able to get my first live stock (Fire shrimp) so the pictures wont just be of snails.

Someone fell asleep in front of the tank again. I wont say who.

In a small rig like yours the balanced solutions will work fine. You want to keep your CA+ btween 400-460 and carbonate hardness (alk) btwn 8-12dKH. Go slowly when 1st introducing these and test frequently. You'd probably want to start nailing these levels down and maintaining them b4 u get anything important. Remember u have snails, and these levels r just as important to them, as they r to corals.

red sea test kits for mg and cal and alk are a huge pita! i tried it when my mag and cal ran out, would not recommend it, its just 2 confusing. try salifert i love their test kits they are really good.. even though they might be on the expensive side they are worth it ..u can just order them online.

glad your tank is coming along fine.. how many hermits and snails do you have? i just added my clean up crew last friday and today is tuesday and there is no signs of algae
those little guys got to work! i have two blue leg and 2 mexican turbos and they munched down!

those rocks are going to look great when they get all the purples and greens!

keep us posted

Worry that you'll screw it up by doing nothing. C'mon, you paid for the ticket, now get on and ride.
Besides better to screw up now then when you have something other that snails in the tank.

Yep.
My KH is a little High, so i think IU'll need to add more Ca. I'll look up how to add the stuff and the ratios tomorrow.
