I don't know if this is really picture worthy today, but I got my 28 gal hqi nano today and it wasn't broken! With excitement I picked up distilled water on the way home, filled her up and mied the salt in per instructions.
Couple questions.
1.) My salanity is around 1.010 is there general incriments that you add?
.25 a cup .50 a cup? and then check again?

Second the water is going into the overflow but it filled up the sponge on the top and overflowing the media basket, is that supose to happen? Any downsides to that happening?

I hope to let the salt mix for a couple more days and then i'll be getting live sand on thursday and maybe a pound of live rock. I already got 25 lbs on base rock. Can't wait to start the aquascaping!

So, I'm at the end of weak one. I noticed the hydrometer I got is broken. I called up the Docs and they are sending me a new one. Was suppose to be here two days ago. However, the 18 inches of snow has stopped us from getting out, and anyone from getting in. The readings I am getting is 1.010, I'm not sure how acurate it is, but I"ll be doing a water change tomorrow, if not in the next couple days.
No live stock yet.
I added one pound of live rock. One bag of live agate and one bag of crushed coral. I didn't mix them toether so you can see the layers. I think it'sl pretty cool.

Now for the pictures. I got the base rock from http://www.marcorocks.com/ , They are awesome BTW. Great customer service.

My little cave like area.

I really can't wait to start getting the live stock.
For the last week I've been monitering the Temps. Make sure it doesn't get to high. I've been leaving the lights on for about 1-12 hours a day. Hasn't seem to budge 82.

Thanks for reading!

looks like you're off to a good start. as soon as you can ditch the hydrometer and go with a refractometer, though.

I for 25 lbs of Fiji rock from http://www.marcorocks.com/
Top notch service there. I would buy anytime from them.
As far as the refractometer I do think I'll be getting one soon.
I've had no real heat problems yet. Havn't needed a fan.
I"ll try to get another pictures up of the rocks. There is somewhat of a arch in there that none of the previous pictures show off.
Thanks for the compliments! Means alot to me!

yeah, hear you on the snow, where I live in jersey we got 26 inches. Scrap the hydrometer ALL TOGETHER. Get yourself a refractometer. Money well spent, ANY hydromiter you buy will be off, most-likely right out of the box.

Most of the ones I looked at were around 40 dollars. Maybe I'll get enough money from Christmas to get one.

the comment for the fan was more because the temp is a little on the high side get it a couple degrees lower, as far as a refractometer, I too will recommend one but as long as you bump your swing arm hydrometer up against a refractometer and know what 1.025 looks like on your hydrometer you'll be fine. Have you seen the cycle start yet?

I haven't noticed any Diatom Blooms Yet. Would that start to happen with the salt level low?

i would also hold off on doing any water changes till cycle is complete. may want to add a piece of shrimp or frozen food to help jump start. welcome to the hobby. tank looks good. youll love the the all in one. i also bought marcos rock and have to say great stuff. fyi start saving your bucks. you will want to upgrade. i went from a 12g aio to a 50g to a 75g now im debating on a 120g. your off to a good start go slow let your cycle complete and have patience.

First off I am using the "API Saltwater Master test Kit"
Saltwater High Range: 7.8
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0

I'll see if I can get a raw peice of shrimp to drop in there tomorrow.
Thanks for the help and advice :)

ahh still too early, give it time.

I will. Today is day 8 and I'll be adding a shrimp in tomorrow. My main concern is I won't be able to get a CuC after the cycle is complete because I'll still be snowed in. Hopefully all this snow melts in a week or so :)

umm, you've had this a week? No live rock yet? If you have no live rock or anything to start the cycle, you will never(in a reasonable time) see a cycle. If you have given your salt mix 2-3 days to aerate and stabilize temp-wise(hope that you have lowered the temp from 82 to about 77-79) you can add your live rock and sand. Also, for a 29, depending on the number of fish you plan to have, I'd at least get another 10 lbs of LR. That will seed, and give you just in the range of good rock for biological filtration.

You can go ahead and get your LR and LS now. With 1 lb of LR, you probably would need shrimp or some dead organic matter to jump-start the cycle, with 10 you should be fine.
