Pyramid Snail question

Last night I turned on my aquarium lights after they had been out for a couple of hours (I like to see all the pods scurrying around:p) and noticed numerous (50+) tiny snails that I had never seen before. After a little research they appear to be pyramid snails. The weird thing is that I dont have any clams and I havent bought any new snails for 6+ months.

I think I only have a couple snails left and my question is that if I dont have snails or clams in my tank, will the pyramid snails starve & die off? Or will they find something else to feed on? I will start removing some manually, But I know I will never get them all. Also, what are your theories for the sudden population explosion? Id love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks
Jason

The most likely answer is that you have a bunch of rissoids, that can look almost exactly like pyramidellids. The second most likely is that you do actually have some snails that are pyramidellids, but not the species that are parasitic on snails and clams. I don't think I'd worry about it. As far as the population explosion, chances are good that you already had a lot of juveniles, and they all got large enough to see at about the same time.

Cheers,

Don

I KNOW I have pyramid snails!!!

I KNOW I have pyramid snails!!!

I need to know how to get rid of these little bastards!!! They are devouring my zoanthids, and now starting to have a taste for my monti's. Are there ANY natural predators that are reef safe? I am removing them manually but its a loosing battle, they are reproducing like mad, and I cant keep them in check..

What can I do? PLEASE...
