QT question

Just curious, does anyone use sand in their QT? I have mine bare bottom right now but was wondering if sand should be added.

Also it leads me to this question. If you were purchasing a goby, wouldnt you want sand for them or does that not really have an effect on them?

I don't use sand because its harder to keep it clean. Just plenty of hiding spots made with various pvc pieces.

I use sand in mine, plus a couple of pieces of rock for hiding places so the fish feels safer, more comfortable, etc. You DO have to monitor any meds, though, b/c the sand and rock can absorb them and reduce their effectiveness.

What if you use copper in your tank then later want to use it for QTing coral?

you take down the qt, clean it with vinegar and then re set it up for qt'ing the coral.

BTW

why would you want to qt coral? Usually fresh water or formalin dips are the way to go with coral

Same here, I feel that a plain glass box with pvc would stress the fish, I try to make it more natural, it also helps with filtration.

capn_hylinur, I was trying to make the point that the sand bed would make things harder, however since you treated it as a question could you please tell me, I believe I recently introduced some crypto on either a piece of coral or some astrea. Would a freshwater dip or formalin dip have taken care of this?
