Quarantine Service - Not Divers Den?

Is there a service available that will quarantine your specimen for you for a fee? If not, why not? Aren't there people who would be willing to pay for such a service rather than pay, setup and do it all themselves? (I would)
 
No one will do it cause there is chances it might die during the quarantine

This. Then who is at fault?

Does the service then get another fish or tell you sorry, it died despite our efforts.

There is hardly any money in selling fish to begin with, if a seller kept a fish a extra 30 days minimum (closer to 45 is ideal) the price per fish would be much higher and there isn't as much of a market for this as one might think

Humblefish? If I had any interest in shipping fish, I would QT fish for people but without me getting fish dirt cheap and getting a break on shipping overnight it wouldn't be cheap for anyone.

Well one thing I've learned in this hobby that in the last about 5 years, I'd say is people are willing to pay ridiculous amounts of money for livestock and equipment. People want to show off and have the "œbest" it's s far cry what the hobby used to be.

Very true. I feel that if you're not able to QT fish on your own, you might be in the wrong hobby... but that's just me

I don't think it's a matter of being able to do it... It's a service. That's like saying if you aren't able to figure out where you are going, you shouldn't drive a car, yet tons of millennials really on GPS for every trip they make.

That might not be the best analogy, but your see the point. It's a convenience thing. We live in a world of convenience and instant gratification.

How much does two 10 gallon tank cost? It's sure easier to do it yourself than to trust someone doing it for you. At least doing it yourself you know what process been done.

Right, so here is how it would work:

1. Customer (you) pays for initial cost of fish
2. Customer (you) pays a QT/treatment charge - let's say $20/week to cover utilities, supplies, food, medication, etc.
3. Customer (you) bears the risk; if fish dies during QT, no refund is forthcoming
4. Service will follow rigorous QT protocol, but is not responsible for latent disease problems in customers (you) tank

Would you find that acceptable? My sense is that most people would not ..... which is why nobody does it :lol:

I have, on occasion, done QT for local reefers that could not, for various reasons. I do it for a frag or two, but stipulate that I cannot guarantee the fish will always survive.
 
Is that sort of what the places that put in and maintain tanks in people’s houses do? They do it all. Put in the tank, the critters, clean the tank, etc. the LFS we go to does it for people and businesses.

Except when you own a LFS and have fish constantly coming in, you don't QT anything. They may have meds in the water but unless said fish is exposed to the medication for a minimum of 30 days it will do nothing. (Chloroquine Phosphate IME can be used for 21 days with great success in treating ich) I treat all fish in QT no matter if they show signs of disease (ich and flukes) or not. Places that maintain others tanks typically involve little more than a water change (which again I think a hobbiest should be able to handle on their own) and bringing in overpriced, non QTed fish that are sure to bring disease into your tank. Maintaining a tank and QTing fish are two vastly different things
