Question about BTAs

Why do some BTAs extend their tentacles fully, to almost look like an LTA like this

and other are kinda stubby, like this

Some think it has to do with the amount of light they're getting, others believe it's stress...maybe some just feel like it.

I think it may have something to do with light. Under actinics my Large GBTA has bubbles, when the 10,000K start coming on they go away and become longer tentacles. It is about half way down the tank rockwork. My smaller BTA near the top of the rockwork is always bubbled and short tentacles. You can see what I am talking about in my gallery.
