Question about pump for water changes

I'm looking to get a pump so I can pump water out of a garbage can in the garage to my tank about 40 feet away. I will be using 3/4 inch tubing and I think the rise will be about 3 feet total. Does the distance really matter or is it just the height? Any recommendation On my way! Pump or goth sizing? Water changes will be 5-20 gallons normally so not too worried about how fast it is.

Thanks

I use a mag18 to pump water for my water changes and topoff. It goes from the basement fishroom up to the DT in the living room through 3/4 PVC, probably up 10' and 30' horizontally. It could be faster IMO but then I'm doing 30+g at a time and get impatient.

Horizontal distance is about one foot of head per ten feet. To fill five gallons you don't want anything huge I imagine something rated at 7-800 gph would be fine which will actually pump about half that. I have a mag7 for water changes in a very similar setup and it takes 18 minutes to pump 40 gallons but I'm only using 1/2" tube.
