question for H mag owners

I have had my mag now for over a year.My question is how often do you guys feed your mag.I have been feeding mine once every two weeks.I have noticed it isn't as big as when I first received it.I started feeding it every other day a single cube of Mysis the past two weeks and it seems to spread out more and the tentecles are longer..

When I first got mine I was feeding it once every three days.

Then it started to get REAL big, so I cut back to once every 10 days or so.

I just started last week to feed it once every 5-7 days.

I feed mine once or twice per week. I have noticed that more frequent feedings results in growth, too. I have gone through periods where I only feed every other week or so and they get slightly smaller, but not dramatically.

I have had mine for about 7 years now. I used to feed it about every week but when I moved it into its newest tank about 18 months ago, I stopped feeding it. I was just looking at pictures of it from the old tank and it was much bigger than it is now. I did not really notice it shrinking but it is really obvious that it has lost a lot of size in the last 18 months. I am going to start feeding it again to see if will regain some of its mass.

Thanks guys,I really appreciate the info.I would say mine went from 15'' across to about 10'' across over the period of a year.Still looks healthy and very sticky.I will feed it twice a week a cube of Mysis.

I feed mine once a week just a small piece of reef frenzy. That thing sucks it down in seconds, if only my onyx Picassos would find it already I'd be set!!

Have you made in changes in lighting?
I have had a number of nems that actually got smaller when adding stronger lights, as in they did not stretch their disc so much trying for max surface area/light absorption.

I don't target feed my mag at all but it gets plenty of the food that I feed to the fish. Dude is huge so clearly getting enough nutrition.

I changed from 250 watt mh's to ai sol super blues.I have them 14'' above water surface and running at 60% white,65% blue,65%r blue for about 7 months now.

Under good condition, good light and water, you should not need to feed your Magnifica to keep it the same size. If you want him to grow, then feed him. I would feed him more fish and shrimp and scallop. That is what I feed mine. I think that there are much lower chance of feeding him spoiled food if you feed him human food, (and much cheaper for higher quality food).
Regarding spoiled food, it your nose tell you that the food smell bad, then don't put it into your tank.
I feed my fish Mysis and Ocean Plankton (along with various dry food) but really careful to check on the freshness of them before put this food into my tank.

I stopped feeding mine about 10 years ago because it was growing too fast. It has split a couple of times since and I now have two of them living side by side. They are doing fine just by grabbing what they can from the wter column.

Pavlo... can we get a picture, or two? I would love to see how they are fairing.

Thanks!

Happy to oblige,

here are a few.

And finally, from above. it looks quite small but bear in mind that the tank is a metre wide.
