Question regarding green acro stringy response

Hi guys,
My green acropora started stringing. I believe that this was a response to my feeding of brine shrimp (which I haven't fed the aquarium in a while approx. 1 month)
Is this normal behavior or could this be a problem?

Thanks!
Guy

IME experience it is a response to "something". Our green slimer (this is where they get that name!) is large enough that it has about 6 branches that are out of the water every time we do a water change and after it gets resubmerged the tips that were exposed to air slime.

I've also had all of the acros slime a bit too (very much like your picture). One time it was when the ATO pump kicked on (user error) before the kalk had fully settled and they didn't seem to like the heavy shot of lime they got. It has also happened a time or 2 where I couldn't pinpoint the cause of it. In any event, none have ever seemed to suffer negatively from it.

So in answer to your question about response to the brine shrimp....maybe! Not sure that helps but I doubt it will be an issue for you. Try feeding the brine again and see if you get the same response.

Those are mesenterial filaments. Corals will extend them to increase their digestive surface area to feed. They are also used as a defense against other corals, as they will extend them to sting and fend off or to ingest the other coral to make space to grow.

In your case it's clearly a reaction to the food (several of my corals do it all the time), but its debatable if they are actually trying to feed or if they sense something in the food as an irritant or threat and may be responding defensively.

I tend to side on it being more a feeding response.

Ok thank you very much for the detailed answers! :)
I will try feeding again tomorrow and see if they respond the same way again or not.
