Questions about Alligator Pipefish: Care and Breeding

Hi,

I'm interested in expanding my horizons and trying to keep and breed Alligator Pipefish(Syngnathoides biaculeatus). I find this particular species of pipefish very interesting and from what I've read they sound right up my alley.

I do have a few questions:

1. I know these get 11" as adults, and 7" is when they reach sexual maturity, so what size tank would be recommended for a group of 7"+ Alligator Pipefish. How much space does an individual adult need? Also, which dimensions are more important? Length, Width, or Height?

2. Can one visually identify the sex of Alligator Pipefish?

3. What's the best method of filtration? How much flow should I be using?

4. Live food must be fed on a daily basis so I'll probably need to culture my own baby brine shrimp, but what about zoo/phytoplankton? Can I dose my tank with it to give them a constant supply of living food?

5. When the fry are born they're approximately 1" in length... do I need to remove them from the display and put them in a nursery?

6. Tankmates? Anything I could keep with them that wouldn't jepordize potential fry?

Any advice I can get would be greatly appreciated. After I can get a little more information I can get started on plans for my new project.

Thanks in Advance,
Dave
