breutus,

Cable quality is the DSB discussion of the AV world. People have very strong feelings about it and the discussions never do anything but go down hill. I respect your opinion but I happen to fall into the camp that believes "high end" cable quality is mostly a myth. If you fall into the other camp then that is cool - I'm quite sure that expensive cables do not degrade AV quality so we'll both be happy with our systems.

I just think that most people I run into will appreciate the difference between HD and SD but are not audio/videophiles who would care about the differences in quality that high end cables may or may not bring to the signal.

You seem like quite an enthusiast so I'd be interested in hearing more about your AV setup.

Returning to Roy's thread . . . Roy, I'd also be happy to stop by and help you get things set up. I'd even bring a few of my cheap :D cables.

I have everything setup and working. Except my old vcr! But if I remember it was doing something funny before and I can test that out easy on a different tv to see if it works right and then find out if it's my wiring. I also haven't tried recording a dvd from the different sources. I used digital coax audio and fiber optic audio for my sound from the dvd and cable.

I've had this a/v tuner/stereo for about 5 years and never set it up correctly/optimal. It replaced the one I had for 10 years that was never setup right either! My sound was waaaayyyyy off before.

Now I don't want to leave the house.

Ahhh, the neverending money pit. This is as bad as my reef tank. I can only get 480 in dvd unless I go get a blue ray or dvd with upconvert. :(

But you can get an upconverting DVD player very cheap sir....

I did but I had to run for another hdmi cable on the way back to work. Best buy was too expensive. I'll hook up when I get home. I hope it's better looking resolution. Not that it's terrible but the standard dvd was subpar to me on a bigger screen. And I'm not ready to throw another 350 out on blue ray. I'd get a ps3 if that were the case. Does blockbuster rent the bluerays yet?
