So is water continuously being introduced and returned from the reactor - albeit slowly - and the only thing 'timed' is when vitamin C and amino acid get dropped in?

Looking good Evan! Which feeder is that? I Haven't seen any with the individual compartments like that they all just kind scoop up the food from the container so to speak.

Correct. That way the only thing I have to remember is 2-3 times a week to put a little papone in the reactor door. And once a week to add more vita c and AA's to the auto feeder.

btw, I didn't mention it before, the reactor looks awesome! What type of vitamin C an AA do you use? standard stuff from GNC or do they need to be special type to dissolve?

Great question. I'll get to it all soon. I have pictures of what all I got and how I made the papone step by step.

It's the Rainbow Lifegard Automatic Feeder and yeah it is one of the only few I can use for saltwater due to the individual compartments. You can pick exactly how much of anything to drop in each time. It's really nice if you have a school of Anthias in your tank as they need to eat 3-5 times a day and you work. That hopper in the picture is removable.

Question: So why don't you add the Vit C to the papone mix? Wouldn't that get more of it to the right place?

Hey Evan, grab yourself a zip tie, wrap a small baggie around those wire nuts, and tighten it well. That will #1) keep the wire nuts dry, and #2) better support that dangling light bulb. Right now the only thing holding it are the wire nuts, which is pretty dangerous.

It's nice to see the reactor in place. I'm relieved that it fit.

Good question. Actually the vitamin C is completely separate. It has proven to help with raising you inhabitants immunities when dosed correctly and especially Zoas. You can read about it more here.

yeah I have seen that. It's interesting. I am thinking about adding Vit. C to my frozen food so my fish get more of it. So no problems with the papone going ransid?

Ransid? Like it going bad? It's frozen. I may have a small breakout of stuff as my nitrates and phosphates have always been 0 before but nothing bad so far.

page 3 the next pic after all the pics of the fans in the cabinet it totally looked like he was holding a glass pipe

I think that must be the pipe in your hand talking :D Definitely channel locks that I then use in the next pics.

Well I just looked through all 5 pages of this thread and I must say for a male dominated hobby there is far to much pasty white skin pictures for my comfort:lol: I think I prefer to keep an eye on Nanogurl's thread in hopes of getting a glimpse of some more comforting photos:D :eek1:

Alright, let's talk Papone.

I read this thread which can pretty much answer all your questions about what papone is and what it does.

What I really wanted to show is the process of making it. First I went to Central Market for the live stuff.

5 live oysters
5 live clams
5 live mussels
5 fresh shrimp (NOT cocktail shrimp, the big scampi type w/o the head and the shell)
1 Tablespoon of Fructose Sugar

*Recipe also called for these things but we already had:
10g of Red Algae (Palmaria palmata; Bisck uses Julian Sprung's brand)
and/or 10g of Spirulina

Here's a picture of me looking up the recipe on the Italy's best thread via my new Asus Eee laptop which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! It's 400 bux and has everything you could ever want.

Moving forward... 5 Gulf White Shrimp straight out of the Gulf the day prior:

5 Live Chesapeake Oysters

5 Live Black Mussels

5 Live Cherrystone Clams

Granulated Fructose (bought extra for later)

The only other thing I bought at CM was a Oyster Knife cause they were not easy to open ($7.99)

That all came out to $29.43
