for some reason, i've had this problem a lot when posting on certain threads here on RC... I normally copy to clipboard in case it hangs when submitting so I can just paste it back in... but I forgot to last night and lost the post and felt I didn't have the energy to post it again...

I spent a few minutes typing out something on Evan's hammer coral; what type it was (branching or wall/anchor) and why one is easier to frag than the other because it is something Evan can do (to trade or just to make space); some precautions to take when fragging and transporting euphyllias (for the noobs that read this thread), etc.; I may take a few mintues later to rehash what I wrote - if I'm not studying for a LEED exam (contruction industry is heading Green so I need to get accredited)...

Excellent build thread! I love how a small tank can be made incredible in the right hands. Every time I see one of these, I wonder if I should move down instead of up! Thanks for taking the time to post all the pictures, Evan...us lurkers appreciate it. As for getting rid of the bubble algae...PBITAWA!

It made me move down, so beware of the sweet nano setups!

Any time a post doesn't take (you get the error page), just click Refresh in your browser, and then click on the alert box that pops up. Your post should still be in limbo, not lost yet. If you click Back, it'll be gone. You may have to try several times until the post appears in the thread, but that is what I do -- and it works.

Another question for those of us that are Vortec ignorant: What do the different modes do? Wave mode is pretty obvious but lagoon?
Thanks.

Hey got a question for you Evan, or Melev for that matter.

I'm going to redo the design of my bubble tower within my sump, and I like your design.

If you could change anything about it what, if anything, would it be?

Thanks in advance!

Ryan, I think it works great just the way it is.

Phil, since this is Evan's thread, I'll let him answer your question.

hey quiksilver awesome tank bro,,, im starting mine very soon, (29) as well, which is why I ask what exactly did you use for a SUMP. and was it a pain? because I was planning on running mine without a sump... but im leery about it,... just wondering,. thanks man

I built mine customfor my specific application out of acrylic. I don't know that I would ever do a tank without a sump at this point. It just makes is look better without all the HOB equipment and I love having a refugium.

This might be a dumb question, but which Vortech you are using?

I only know of one that Ecotech Marine makes.

Zoophile and Kentanner11 thanks for the truly flattering words. I don't know that my system really falls under the "nano" category at this point but I'm glad it has inspired you.

Great question.

The wireless wave driver offers 4 modes.

Reefcrest - You set the max speed. The pump will vary from one speed to another rapidly to simulate the high-energy conditions of a natural reef crest environment.

Lagoon - You set the max speed. The pump will vary slowly from one speed to another to simulate a calmer, lagoonal reef environment.

Pulse - You can set the speed and the intervals of the pulse. You can adjust this mode to do the wave action which is how I got it.

Constant - just one constant speed which you set.

Keep in mind multiple Vortechs can be synced together wirelessly to obtain the desired effect for your system. Lots of people love doing one in reefcrest and another on lagoon for totally random flow.

Ryan,

Marc lies. The bubble tower sucks and I would do it totally different if I could go back. No bubbles get past it, so the design is fine but I would love to have made it much bigger. As it is now because of eurobracing, there is hardly enough room for the drain line and I needed to cut it shorter to lessen the back pressure many times. But I can't because I can't even get the drain line out of it without draining the entire sump and forcing it out very carefully like a puzzle piece.

Use this same design, but leave a ton of extra room around it because you never know what you will need the space for (My topsecret project calls for another drain in that tower, and guess what, NO ROOM).

wow, nice build.

the infinity prop tank is dope, and speaking of...looks like you guys needed energy from more that pizza on that long night. ;)

LOL! Love that. Yeah on the night we built the papone reactor and stayed up all night, I downed 4 sugar free red bulls in like 2 hours. I was jittery to say the least.

Quick question, hope I'm not bringing up bad memories, what ever happened to the clam? I'm starting to "lurk" about them now in preparation for the dry hole getting wet one day and was curious.
