Quoyi parrot feeding

Even if you remove all the corals and inverts what about the organisms that make live rock live. Will they survive in extended hypo salinity? If not you will have a major die off of those organisms and the aforementioned ammonia spike. I just would not chance hypo salinity in the main display tank.

The bacteria won't die from ammonia spike but likely with with hypo IMO I don't know that for a fact on the hype, but ammonia is food for them

Hmmm but with a product like bio spira which you can use in fresh and salt tank, I should be able to prevent ammonia spike

As far as many other critters in tank, there isn't much in there. Tank is less than 6 mo old

I am not saying the ammonia spike will kill the bacteria, because as you say the bacteria is what consumes the ammonia among other things. I am saying that the hypo salinity would kill the bacteria. Then there would be nothing in the tank to consume the ammonia and that would result in the ammonia spike that would kill the fish.

Have you tried the live black worms? I think there is also a white one, but most fish of any kind find it hard to pass up a wiggling worm.

I'm beginning to feel your pain and would be frantic trying to find something it will eat, which I'm sure you are. :(

I'm going to lfs tomm to pick up a few items. I'll get those too. It's about the last thing there is to try. His eyes are cloudy do I'm not sure if vision is ok. Not sure how to treat that if I even could. It'd have to be an in tank treatment bc moving him will not help his situation. He's fairly shy.

However I did just witness him nipping at rocks. Maybe there's hope. Today is also continuation of lowering salinity. Coincidence?

Update. I'm between 1.008 and 1.009 and holding. The parrot is feeding but only off of rocks. Of course the algae is dying out. I bought an API feeding block that slowly dissolves over days. Took him a couple days but I see scrapes on it now. I'm hoping this supplies enough nutrition. Does anyone know if there are any other of these that might be better. This one is white and has appearance of a rock so I'm guessing that was the appeal. I'm not complaining at this point

Glad to see it's eating. I have done hypo treatment on a 240.Some of the bacteria will die but not all of it.after treatment I never seen any more ick.Would be great if you could get some more live rock with algae on to feed him during hypo.

I've thought the very same thing but the live rock I have left us in my brand new qt tank cycling. It has Xenia on it which has survived being in a rubber maid tub for over a month with no light or filtration and it's still alive! Not getting that in my dt

Most of the soft algae has died off if it anyway leaving only coraline

He showed interest in bigger pellets but spit them out. The smaller pellets I have, he doesn't seem to notice
