Quoyi parrotfish reef safe?

They are all in a holding tank. I wouldn't put 2 together unless you have at the least a 300 or 400 gallon system if not bigger though it did seem like some of them had paired up when I observed them.

Eating pellets? Mine only would eat pellets along with most everyone else I have talked to. Oh and Nori like a champ

He's interested in nori, but I use one of those IM Algae grazers on both sides of the tank. I use those because my moorish idols and yellow scopas eat at least two sheets every day and it obviously makes a mess. Do you think he would be able to pick it out? Are you familiar with this product?

BTW, I need an idea on this parrot. They have it marked as "troschelli" (SP). Never heard of it.

You know I thought so, but this place is the most reputable LFS in my area, NJ, NY and PA. I questioned them several times and they say its not.

You can rest assured that it isn't whatever it is they say it was. Quoyi parrotfish are the most mislabeled fish you can get, especially from divers and wholesalers. Often they are labeled as queens. I would say that reputable maybe, knowledgeable about what fish they are trying to sell, not so much

It's going to be kind of fun going there with 2 Marine Biologists on staff and saying "I told you so".

The only reason I didn't push the issue when it came in was because their price is $200 which I thought was ridiculous.

This fish makes me want a bigger tank, and I haven't even put fish in my newest tank yet haha. Two are on NYAquatics right now.

So I have a few questions. What is the definitve way to determine if its a quoyi or not? I know they come in mislabeled a lot, but I've seen 5 or 6 labeled as "princess" or "green" and they look an awful like mine.

Also, how hard is it to pair them up?

Owning one is one way, another would be to see the fish when it's not stressed and flashing. Pairing them would be difficult without a very large system and getting a several of them at once and picking the two that got along the best over a week or several weeks. No indicators that Im aware of that will tell you male from female. If the fish is labeled as a "princess" I would be willing to bet that it's actually a Quoyi without even seeing the fish

I have one, thats why I was asking. There is a store that has two small ones for $50 and was contemplating getting another.

I snagged one off DD last night. He will be here Tuesday. He's going to be my center piece fish. I'm stoked!
