I am sorry to report that I found my beautiful, GIANT male lyretail dead last night, wedged under a rock. Not sure what happened. He was over three years old in my care, and changed to male almost immediately. You can see the change here .

I am sorry your fish died.It is an amazing transformation you showed in the pictures from female to male.

humm makes me wander bout these maldive lyretails, i had a trio of them and my male just up and was dead one day it seemed to...

Thanks folks. What will be really interesting to see is what the females do now. Pretty sure the next in line is the lone Indo female I have...

whats the life span normally like? i mean theres no real way to judge age unless you get a baby. did you get it as a baby? it mightve been middle age by the time it hit your tank

Definitely the worst part of the hobby for sure. Anytime I lose a fish it makes me heartsick every single time. You get attached when you see them grow up or get nursed back to health.

My sympathy as well. It really does suck, as I just learned by losing 50% of my fish in a tank crash.

I have always heard that anthias are short lived fish. Don't know if that is true or not.

Sorry about your fish. It always sucks to lose one.

So sorry Peter.
Could it have had anything to do with you upgrading your rock pillars? Just a thought.

I know, the same thing went through my mind. I don't think we dropped a rock onto any fish, but, I can't be 100% certain :( The flame wrasses were constantly in the way, so I would have thought one of those would have been injured before that huge anthias...
