Radion G4 Pro fan noise

I really don't like the way the fans run 24/7 on the G4 Pros. My only problem with these great lights is that the fans are LOUD. Probably not so noticable when you have two or three but I have eight. Is there any problem with me putting the power supplies on a timer so that they are off when the lights are off? Will they reconnect and run properly when power is restored? If it's possible how about a software update to fix this.

I saw ETM reply somewhere else that it would be fine to do that, but don't recall where. I wish they'd just have them shut down like the XR15's do.

I spoke with ETM support and there is no problem if I wish power off the lights. However, I was also told that the fans would last longer if they are left to run constantly. This makes no sense to me. I understand that some sensitive electronics might do better if wasn't being turned on and off all the time, but a fan? So now I'm not sure what to do.

The fans are pretty cheap and very easy to replace. In fact, I changed one of mine out last night in about 20 minutes. I could have done it faster, but ETM changed the fasteners they use and I had to hunt down my little Torx bits. I believe my fan developed a slight wobble and it would start clicking a few times a second a few times a day.

I'd power them down at night if you want the silence.

I don't know, but I'd bet that you could source them independently fairly easily. Let me snap a pic of the fan I removed.

Thanks - do you happen to know the dimensions (LxWxD)? Usually the depth is the hardest to find, as they use really thin fans for this type of stuff.

That's actually a loud fan (36db). I'm surprised they don't use something quieter. Lots of computer fans of similar size are roughly 20db.

Looking on NewEgg, there aren't many fans listed that are capable of pushing 42 CFM. Something else I found on a previous project is that the very low noise fan I had purchased was nearly silent when vertical, but quickly got very loud as I tilted it.

Yeah, it's surprising that they don't make the case slightly larger to put in a really silent fan. A couple of 120mm+ fans would provide more than adequate air flow at less than half of the noise.

You have to use a Ball bearing fan and not a sleeve bearing fan to run Them horisontel.
