Random flow vs. Pulse

I've gor a 4 foot tank, currently got a 1000lph return, an eco drift 4 (4000 lph) set om random at one end and an eco drift 8 (8000lph) at the other end set on pulse. Can't decide if i should turn it to random instead of pulse? Creating a more constant flow?

IMHO, setting it to random will do the opposite of a constant flow, it will be more random. And that is what I would rather have. The more chaotic you can make the flow in the tank, the better it does to keep 'stuff' in suspension and it helps eliminate dead spots in and around the rocks or rock/sand interface where cyanobacteria can get started.

Got it on random 100% power now. Puts out some nice varied flow. Its a LOT more. Constant than the pulse setting. Which does create a nice wave effect with all the corals etc. But was getting a dead spot or two. Will see how it looks when home later with it having been on 24 hrs
