Rare and hard to keep !!!!!!!

It is all good.

This is suppose to be a fun and relaxing hobby that keeps us from not thinking about $8 a gallon milk.

19jeffro posted the same crap on my thread, he must be one of those guys gouging people

You don't know me don't throw accusations towards me. Ask anyone on other sites how fair I am. I just sold a tri color rbta for 35$ and threw the guy a small 20-30 polyp colony of zoas and a decent peice of ora German blur digi. I trade mostly so get you facts straight before talking out of your ***.

A few years ago I saw a three polyp frag in an LFS... The polyp itself wasn't quite black, but was VERY close. The blackish background had white colored splotches and dots all over... so that they looked like the night sky. I know this sounds crazy  ..but anyway I picked the frag up. A few months later, my tank's temp spiked to 93 degrees and the polyps bleached completely. :( I haven't seen anything close since. (And I've been on the look out).

I hope these aren't rare. Has anyone seen a frag close to what I'm talking about?

so are the rare bashers going to at-least admit that the two zoa, paly pics are unique?

muncho, are you not showing any pics to compare BC they are not hard to keep? they are hard for some to keep........... never seen them in a freashwater tank....hard for them.

whats the deal?

whats the deal?

Lol, Chris, the deal is this forum isn't very much fun anymore... And doesnt highlight zoas... it highlights bickering and nonsense... it's like religion and politics combined into one never ending BS argument...

One of my favorite sayings... Usually something to the effect of, "I would totally show pics to prove whoever wrong, but I can't right now"... for whatever excuse or another... Show proof, or don't make claims u can't prove...

I'm not siding with gougers or those who claim the rare factor... But these thread are jus goin in circles and destroying this board IMO... But I'll admit, it's the train wreck that I jus have to look at, lol...

It's getting worse than a sewing circle up in here...

Cheers

Wow, sorry to hear you lost them. Were they palys, zoas or protos? Were the dots pin size or slightly larger?

3 of the top 4 threads presently at the top of this forum, all revolve around the same nonsense... That's discouraging to say the least...

I would much rather see some beautiful polyps or learn how to care for them better...

Sorry mucho, I mean no disrespect to you at all... I applaud your efforts greatly... It's jus getting a little silly up in here lol...

It was disheartening to say the least. I don't remember if they were palys or Zoas but they were medium sized polyps. The dots were mostly smaller, but they weren't all uniform size.

I've seen polyps that sparkled like these but none with the solid blackish-purple background.

And to add some of my thoughts to this thread.. (To try and help a little :D)

I think one of the problems with "rare" Zoas is that some polyps don't stand up to being fragged (or they're not being cared for properly during the fragging process) and as a result they're melting. If you chop up a five polyp frag into five separate frags with one polyp each, I'm sure it's worse for the polyps than taking a twenty polyp frag and breaking the rock in half to make two frags that each have ten polyps.

In addition to this, I'm sure many of these frags are simply not given enough time to heal up before they're removed from the tank and sold to someone else, where they need to adjust to the new system. And people think "oh man, these Zoas melt easily, they must be RARE!" Or they just don't grow as quickly due to the above.

And as has been mentioned previously, lighting plays a HUGE role in the coloration of polyps, and I'm positive that is a major contributor to the "morphs". For example, I have about 25-30 Zoas in my tank right now. They are all a nice combo of green and red. Under my T5 lights they look very nice. Nothing that will make your jaw drop, but I was very happy with them. Anyway, I added a Reef Brite strip (sets of royal blue LEDs) to the tank, and WOW! They are popping a vibrant yellow that is almost fluorescent. You can easily see the outlines of these Zoas from across the room. I have to admit, I love the look, but do like it when the T5s come back on because the colors are more realistic.

you are so right, there is nothing left to talk about in this whole forum. its not zoas anymore, its lead by 2,3,or 4 cocky know it alls , and i apologize. however this thread for some reason wuz made to make a point. and i guess i made it........

the mods in this forum need to clean all this crap up, mine included, so people come back to talk reef.

make a sticky with all Munchos facts and links, post numbers ext, then lock it so it can only be read. then can we talk about corals, by name, so we can move forward instead of this 5,or 6 thread circle jerk.

Ooooo, I was hoping you said tiny zoanthids as I recall seeing it somewhere a long time ago, just not sure where. The ones I saw were indeed on the smaller size diameter-wise with very uniformed white dots. Not pin head size but slightly larger. The disc was dark, not sure what color though since I wasn't up close to them. They sound nice man, just keep looking and I'm sure they will show up. Also, start sending out emails to your friends and local stores that they may keep their eye peeled for you. Good luck with your search and thanks for the reply.

Thanks, I've been looking, emailing, and asking LFS employees to keep an eye out. Most people look at me like I'm asking for a Zoo that talks :lol2:..

E, you just need that Hasselpaly bud. That thing is priceless and blows any current Z's and P's out there and future Z's and P's that will flood the market. I've been looking forever for that Holy Grail, " HASSELPALY " and I still can't find it myself.
