Rare Anemone at Ki's

Patrick,

Again, these are potential customers at some point in the future and taking a negative approach will only hurt your cause.

Remember that the people on RC spend thousands of dollars on the hobby but most have learned the hard way to be wise when pulling out the wallet. They won't spend it with someone who doesn't know their stuff - look at all the vendors listed on the site with negative statements about them.

First - grow a thicker skin. When you posted a $1,200 starting bid for an anemone that you couldn't find any info on you didn't think it was going to meet with open acceptance... Did you?

Now I do not agree with the name calling and attacks - but some of your responses have been less than cordial... Remember, this forum is dedicated to the support of the hobby and those who participate in it. We really get to know and love the people on the site - most of which we will never meet in person.

Take a deep breath - delete the emails that make you angry - and begin again.

Much better. ;)

I think that finding a scientific name for the anemone would do wonders. It is very attractive, but until people know what is really is...they may wonder. Just my two cents.

why is everyone jumping on pitbull & his auction?
'live coral' is listed for the search engine & in MO
if he wants to sell an anemone for that much, more
power to him. whether he gets it or not is up to the
buyer, not him. i can sell a bristleworm for $1000 on
ebay if i want to, it's not violating any ebay policy i know of.

Hey MM, long time no see:)

I think it is "rare" enough to justify the high price tag.......the owner of the LFS who is an avid collector of rare corals thought it was also.
Sup firefighter, it has been a long time. Nice to see you.

You say it's worth it, eh? I'm trying to imagine what this things looks like. Everyone keeps saying bright orange. Have you ever seen a bright orange fungia? You know how they glow like fire under actinics? Does it glow like that?

I've seen it - it is truly amazing in color, I've never seen anything like it. Just can not wrap my mind around spending $1200 on it though

Hey Patrick, what's up bud? This is Hong, the guy that was getting out of the hobby (180g setup) if you don't remember me. :p I really wish you luck in selling the anemone cuz for whoever buys it, they're getting one heck of an anemone. I know if I was staying in and had the money I may buy one.

The problem I see is not the price - it's the information side.

I love business and the whole reason for being in business is to turn a profit.

That being said, I also want return business and happy customers. Posting an animal without the information needed for the buyer to be successful in keeping it alive is a poor business tactic and doomed to failure and anger.

A list of the basic and optimum tank specifications, foods and water perimeters needed to be posted with the auction. My hope is that Pitbull is doing this to further the hobby and make some money in the process. Unfortunately from the appearances and his attitude, he is in it to make a WHOLE LOTTA MONEY and very little support after the sale if the buyer has problems.

In one of the other threads, an RC'er called up the Ki Hong and spoke with him personally.

{Ki says he has no information on it, supposedly him and the seller went to a retailer in LA together and picked it up. He would not divulge the purchase price, only that he was surprised to see that she was selling it online because he thought she was going to sell anything that split from it to him.

Ki said it is most definately in the rose family, but not sure of the exact species name. He asked how much it was selling for and when he heard the price, all he said was "wow"} - Originally Posted by Matsui56

IMHO, that's why Pitbull is taking so much heat.

It's worth whatever you can get for it. If someone (not me) wants to pay 25,000 for it, then it's worth 25,000.

i saw the one ki had it is very nice looking piece but that is a whole lot of paper i mean a whole lot of paper.

mabey you should consider a payment plan or a lease on it.

or i will give you a hundred for it and pick it up tonight let me know if a c note sounds allright.

The actual value of the anemone is Jack shizznit. It's only worth what someone will pay for it. I'm sure there are a lot of suckers out there with more money than brains. If you get 1200 for it, good for you.
Some people pay hundreds of dollars for Beanie Babies and other worthless crap...

I agree with Brian. If you have a Barry Bonds rookie card signed it really isn't worth crap until you get someone to ante up for it. That said...

As for this anemone...yes it is very cool. But $1200? I read you were just trying to help out the hobby and expand the animals in the trade well why not sell this anemone for say $300. much more reasonable price and that would be doing the hobby more of a favor. Good luck with the $1200 thing.

is it a car dealers responsibility to teach you how to drive?
or my job to teach you how to swim? pointers are nice, but
ultimately, it's up to the buyer to know how to keep an animal.
i provide links to more info, if asked, on all my auctions & so far
only one person has asked.
everybodies getting worked up over the price. so what if he's
trying to get $1200 for it? if everybody else thinks it's too high,
it won't sell. if one person wants it & has the money, both people
are happy. case closed. what's the bother?

I just wish i had that kind of money to go throw around. I'm a firm believer that money CAN buy happiness:) Of course i never have any money so i would never know

RicksReefs,

Would you sell a generic 'pool' to your customers? I could just hear you saying, "No, it has water in it... Here's a picture... Uh, filter requirements? I don't know. Uh, Chlorine Needs? Uh, I don't know. Cleaning? Uh, don't know. Size of hole needed in your yard? Don't know, but look how rare and beautiful it isââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦"

How long would you be in business?
Not long - I promise.

Looks like we (RMRC) will be in the lime light for at least the next couple of days, with lots of people visiting our forum.

I would just like to invite the non-believers to come on out to Denver and see this anemone for themselves. Then they can actually post having the facts and not just opinions and feelings; because except for those of us out here, I haven't seen anyone post that has actually seen this animal however everyone that has seen it says that it is quite amazing. Why is that?

For those of you that think it is too much $$$, don't buy it. I too think it's too much money and I don't plan on buying it. Something else that is just really bothering me is how can the "knowledgeable reefers" on this site make any judgments or state so called facts when they have not even seen the animal? And how can a few of the RC Staff and RC Team members post comments that are either borderline inappropriate (one that even calls Patrick a joke) or in jest at Patrickââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s expense and nothing is said to them. Please someone help me out with this one.

What I think would be quite humorous is if this anemone takes off like other ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œrareââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ animals have (rbta or blue zoas or blue tort or ppe or ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦) did and everyone has to have one. Only time will sort this one out.

.....I went to bed last night knowing where the other thread was heading, now this one is traveling down the same road.Like what has been said a couple of times.I can ask anything I want for my property.Suppose he didn't know what he had, which seems to be the case, and sold it as a rose?In a year from now everyone would be saying what a *******.Yes the research should be done and the person bidding on it is a fool, a gambler,or knows something about this anemone we don't.It could turn out to have the genetic makeup of a cow.Who knows, but with enough people searching for this animals I.D. we all will know soon, maybe with a few detailed pics this could be a galapolos Island mutant:lol:
