Rare Anemone at Ki's

Amazing. About 7 threads were started, for the most part independently. This thread will probably have 100 posts in the first 24 hours. And, the first 3 pages were on topic.

PitBull and a few others can claim it's a rose by another name, but even sweeter. But, the huge number of people who thinks the auction is dishonest should tell you something.

If I put something on Ebay with information that I couldn't proove, but just guessed was correct, and dozens of people told me that the information was not correct, how could I not consider that they might be right?

"Oh and Murfman, that Orange you have keep and eye on it at the next meeting. :: I am thinking maybe a Big Gulp filled with Salt water, no ones looking....see ya Murf thanks for the memories. I do have five kids.... "

that is ok scott, Ziggie will be performing body cavity searches on everyone when they leave...........
Hmmm... I could write the word "anemone" on the side of a big gulp, and that would make it an anemone. It would be rare, and not a rose anemone (because I didn't name it "rose anemone") so it's worth $1200?

PitBull, I feel I gave you the benefit of the doubt, in more than one thread. But, you can't back up your claims that the anemone is rare, so I think you should not claim that it is. I don't have a pile of red clay with me, and maby I havn't seen one in a while, but that doesn't make it rare. Saying "have you seen one? If not, there's your proof that it's rare; sorry the pics are so bad" is just BS in my opinion.

Hey Brandon,
Do you happen to have plans drawn up for this "anti-alien shelter"? I have noticed some strange behavior in my BTA's lately and wouldn't mind having that extra peice of mind? I'll trade you my bag of toenails for them.

LOL Hey BiGBoi, Well I have "custom made" my shelter to fit my backyard. If you need help with yours let me know ;)

P.S. I am not sorry for stealing the thread, I think everyone needs to be aware of aliens in anyone's reef tank. Just my .02

;)

Mike, I will ask you the same question I asked Jim and maybe you can help me out here. Where in the eBay listing is a statement that is dishonest or fraudulent? Again please only quote what was actually written not what you think was said or what others have felt. You are correct, the seller could not back up the statement that the anemone is rare but the fact that no one here on RC (64,000+ members) and reefs.org (16,000+ members) can say they have even seen one similar has, in my mind at least, solidified that it is rare. Legitimate? That is yet to be seen. And how would you suggest he solidify that it is rare.

What do you say to the numerous people here in Denver that have seen it first hand and not one person has said the eBay listing is dishonest or fraudulent. Overpriced? You bet. I have seen it along with others here in Denver so we arenââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t talking about some kind of Bigfoot story, it does exist and unless all of you non-believers are trying to imply that you know more than us here in Denver that has to account for something. Or does it? I would really like to have someone please explain away the first hand observations that have been made here locally.

And again, it is my contention that the reason most people are up in arms is because of the price. If this is not the case and it is truly about misleading people then why has no one commented on the other items listed as rare, such as the three below?

http://cgi.aol.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=46308&item=4311648370&rd=1

http://cgi.aol.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=46308&item=4311530040&rd=1

Unless someone can legitimately answer my questions and challenge first hand observations, I will finally be finished with this debate. I guess we will just wait and see what the future holds for the little anemone that dared to be different. :(

While I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t discount Brandonââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s alien theory, it would explain some of the comments that I have read on the numerous threads regarding this topic and why Brandon has been missing for such a long time.

Jim, I would still like to know more about the differences in tentacle structure so I can study up on it and compare my different animals when I get home tonight. And by the way I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t think your ground up toe nails for calcium theory will work; toe nails are made of keratin which is a protein. :smokin:

Wow- look what happens when I go out to lunch - don't think I've ever seen a thread with this many hits on our forum.

I saw the "Rare Anemone at Ki's" last week after I got my new blue zoos from Hong. I was going to buy it, but only had one check left and decided to use it to buy some rare toenail clippings (got a good buy - they're suppose to be John Elways - got them for $1199.)

Brandon - are you really going to the Cook Islands .... or are you using that as a cover to go to outer space?

Brian - give my your work number, I need to talk to your boss about getting you a new project.

Actually did see it, had to do a double take at the price - it's pretty cool. I hope you get at least your asking price + some! I don't think it's for me to judge how other people spend their money - it's theirs - spend it any way you want - this is America right?

I just can't get the image of a little clownfish swimming around with a foil cap on out of my head.

Maby jawfish could wear foil hats. With chin straps.

First of all, my point was not to call PitBull a liar; rather, I think he sucks at putting stuff on Ebay. Here's my response to what you posted above: can ANY of these statements from the Ebay listing be proven:

You are bidding on an exceptionally rare bright orange bubble anemone.

If you think our minimum price is too high, than you donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t know how rare these really are.

This will be the focal point of your tank.

The color is more brilliant than anything else available for salt water fish tanks.

Originating from the republic of Palau in Micronesia, these are a once in a lifetime find.

Yes, lots of listings on Ebay are full of BS and sales jargon, but when you're selling a $1200 anemone, you need a decent pic of the anemone, and not just a sales pitch.

He said a bunch of stuff he can't back up AND he doesn't have a good pic.

Two more questions, jdallred.
1) Based on the Ebay auction, and only the Ebay auction, would you believe that anemone is worth $1200, or would you believe it's just another RBTA worth about $50.
2) The seller said he sold two of them for $1500 each. Do you think either of those people would have bought them for $1500 if all they saw was the Ebay auction? He really can't back up anything he said in the auction, he can't even get a decent picture.

I will give him props for not doctoring the pics with photoshop. But how can anyone put a $1200 anemone on ebay with a pic that looks like a RBTA (not even a good RBTA), claim it's rare when he has 3 and already sold 2 (why not include customer references), and expect to be taken seriously? Who makes $3000 selling a pair of anemones and can't get a decent pic taken?

Why doesn't someone just go over and take a decent pic? I PM'd one CO reefer and asked him to do so; he said he's busy but will try in a few days. Get a good pic, make a few people eat their words.
