Charles might I suggest that if you ever have something that someone has in this first "circle" that you fill it and declare that circle closed, at least this way we have one complete set of trades that can go on, then you can open up a new circle.

Option 2: If someone desires what you requested and can fill a spot in, perhaps take yourself out, and replace with them and complete the circle, simply to have one locked up. Especially if it doesn't look like you'll have anything people want. Example, if it looks like everyone is requesting/providing rare SPS and you don't have any, maybe open up a chain starting with stuff you do have to better increase the odds of completing a circle you're in. Of course the downside of this is that you're out of the circle that you created so the piece you originally wanted is out of picking contention.

Then perhaps for multiple circles someone can volunteer to be the first up who has a bunch of goodies already so the probability of them to come to a compromise with the last person is sufficiently high, for instance I know Karl could easily please most anyone (you sexy beast you ;)), however finding something that'll please him might be more challenging to get that circle started in the first place ;)

I'm less concerned about my being able to meet someone elses need and more concerned with having 2 others that have to do so.

It is not about trying to close out this circle and then start another. The point is about having multiple circles going at the same time.

But maybe I can find someone else who is able/willing to get a second string going? ;)

on the concern of slowing down, perhaps posting the thread as a sticky on this forum (the way they post all frag swaps as stickies on the socal reefers forum, regardless of whether they are entirely informal/at someone's house or sponsored by a local reef club) as well as post on nearby forums whenever a new set of picks is put on may help generate more people who potentially have the requested collectible corals..

considering its only been a few days, and the picks people are posting are pretty 'rare,' time-wise doesn't seem that bad and seems like people are following the thread but not posting (as asked) until they have something that is requested..

The posting elsewhere sounds like it could be a good idea. I'll ask around.

As for the timing... you already know I agree with you, but I do sense that people are becoming impatient. I also know that we are averaging 1-2 picks per day, which means the picking may continue for another 2 weeks.

IMO that doesn't leave enough time for frags to heal. I'd like to wrap up this phase in about a week, giving the corals 2 weeks to heal.

Clearly, I could resolve this timing issue by shortening the alloted time to fill a request. But I am concerned that less than 24 hours means that the more "collectable" corals will be less likely to show up.

There's the rub... speed vs quality vs sacrifice.

Stay tuned... I think I will have the answer soon. ;)

Well here's what I have that are large enought that I can frag and someone may want. I justed started to get into reefing and don't have any large rares.

Yes I realize this, however my rational is to close a circle as soon as possible does two things 1) it prevents a potential unravelling of the whole thing, ie if the last guy doesn't get what he wanted, then he doesn't give what he offered, and the next guy does the same because he ain't getting any etc etc. It closes up potential loops 2) It starts a new one up with someone fresh who might have a wide range of requests, but have enough stuff that he/she can finish the circle up asap as well.

But I see what you mean about multiple circles, although one circle doesn't need to complete with itself, it can complete another circle, and vice verse.. a Klein surface if you will :D But I'm not totally advocating multiple circles as well. Plus figuring out who gets 'first pick' really would become a bit of a sketchy situation. I totally think you can advocate that last person not getting exactly what they want as their "personal" swap coral, by having them look through the list of what is coming and getting first crack at all of them, with multiple circles that would become more problematic.

You could also shorten the number of invites as well. Everyone is still going to get 3 corals, this of course limits the "diversity" if it's small, however with the number of people we already have is enough to make this go, more would be better, but hey you've only offered it up for a few days.
 
i thought the idea of having the last person get first pick was originally to address the issue of 'closing the circle' in some ways as i'm sure they *hopefully* could find something interesting that they essentially get to pick in the first round (very nice position to be..).

perhaps another option would be like 'fantasy baseball' type swap, where everything is done almost in 'real time' to satisfy the more impatient types. this way there would be an agreed on 2 hour time period (maybe a wednesday or saturday evening, so those who don't work on a computer can join too.. :D ) posted a couple weeks in advance.

don't exactly know how this works, as i don't do fantasy baseball, but my brother right around now sets aside a whole evening to do picks online where they have rounds and already have their picks setup. maybe we could get 10-15 people who can post up 3 nice corals they are willing to frag, once they are given the 'go-ahead' (maybe by others they their corals would be picked/wanted by people in the group), then all picks are posted and computer randomly generates list of who picks first, second, etc. each person picks on, then moves onto next person, etc.

obviously this doesn't have to be in real time (as we would know our pick ranking beforehand, and since we already know the picks too, we can setup our picks in advance).. just a thought for a future format for an informal frag swap.. :)

Yeah somewhat true, I have had a tank for years but just the plain stuff from LFS. I never knew there was a Reef club or collectable(rare) coral and so many stores(reef) in the area. Can wait till what I have starts to grow.:D

The LE ones are much more hardy and hold their colors much better. The recent flood of aquaculture pieces coming in do not hold their colors well and tend to bleach out in a month or so.
 
They came from Rommel of Ultimatefrags according to the previous owner guppy0120 (aka jose). He broke down his tank and I bought all his livestocks including those montis. He also have some other rare corals that I now own but just not ready for fragging yet. He only collect rare corals. Even his fish is rare -- a african yellow belly hippo tang that I also bought from him.
 
Need to get a sushi chef to frag that :)

Here are the acans and zoas that we recently acquired from a variety of sources, most of which from SWFAnatics tank, osme from the MARs folks and a few we have had for a while.

One thing to note is that we run 250W 10K w/no actinic or any other supplementation. So take that into account when viewing hte pictures :)

Might as well kick this right off with what Vern called his "micro rock", basically it housed all of his micromussas

Some of them were less than poofy because I had just cleaned the glass for a better shot, and I think that they caught a snack or two from what came off the glass... which is odd since they are a good 10" + from the glass
