RBTA in mp40..Please help

You guys are the best! Thank you!!!

I ordered the 3 pack for now and came across a build for a screencover. It's made of 2 rings of acrylic and then you super glue the fiberglass screen window mesh to it. Seems pretty cool so going to try that as well :)

Btw, update on my old nem...it's seems to be getting larger but now it shrinks almost out of sight for a few hrs randomly.

The new rbta I got has split somehow. It seems to be doing well, but I built a cage for the nem so my maroon does not bother it.

Let's see what happens...

So I did something stupid before I added the 40breeder to the setup this Sunday. I took zyrtec (forgot I get a reaction from it). The thing just makes me loopy and a few months ago I ended up driving to a walmart and when I came to, I was in the parking lot and had no idea how I got there!

Well anyways, so I took it and did not realize that I added half a bottle of algae remover into the tank...yup

Since Sunday my fire shrimp, spiny urchin, and cleaner shrimp died like almost over night. My skimmer was going crazy overflowing even though it was all the way open. I thought it was due to the system being messed with and having the sump water moved around and almost 30g of new water introduced.

Well I figured out what was causing tan colored slime poop looking thing in my tank! My gfo reactor was on and I guess the algae remover did a number on it and all of it was melting or something.

I turned it off last night and this morning I had crystal clear water. However, I still have that tan slime buildup everywhere in the tank. Does anyone know how I can remove this stuff?

BTW..the new rbta split and I removed the cage last night. Both parts are healed it seems as they are fully round. Now I have 3 rbtas!!!! awesome sauce!!!

Sorry to hear that happened.

Siphon it all out. Use a small brush as needed and get it all out before it either revives or crashes the rest.

No it's not bleached I bought two of similar colors. I feed every four days and they have double in size since I've gotten them and they have maintained that color. Just my experience though

This is an interesting thread to say the least. Sounds like your LFS needs some competition... I paid $100 for my 10" Blue Gigantea. And sounds like I need some Zyrtec. lol

There's some hope after all! I hope it's not bleached and it's just a color variant.

How long have you had yours?

6 months. I've see many nems with this color variation. I have many nems and these are my favorites by far. I hope they split soon will see though

That's good news and I hope it's just a color variant that I have! Not to be a downer or anything but it may just be that 6 months is not enough time for them to change to it's true colors?

Anyone else can chime in on this?

bleached anemones are "bleached" due to the loss of the anemone's zooxanthellae.
zooxanthellae is photosynthetic algae that lives inside of the anemone.
the two share a symbiotic relationship as the algae supplies the anemone with oxygen and nutrients while the anemone supplies the algae with a safe home.
Stress is the major factor in the loss of zooxanthellae (which lightens the color of the anemone) which can be attributed to excessive/poor lighting, temp changes, poor water quality, high/low SG levels and so on...)

Feeding an anemone regularly will help keep the anemone alive but not the zooxanthellae.
With proper lighting and water conditions a "bleached" anemone can recover and return to it's original colors over time.

IMO anyone with a lightly colored/translucent anemone will either have a healthy, darker colored anemone with the right conditions over time....or an unhealthy lightly colored anemone for as long as it lasts....

to date I have never seen a 12"+ lightly colored/translucent BTA mounted high on the rocks and out in the open....only smaller sized specimens low in the tank and ususally hidden or semi-hidden from the light...

The other smaller specimen lower in the tank was a perfect description of mine. While the 2 new rbta are attached on top of the rocks and fully open, the bleached nem is still in the same spot when I first put it. It's opening up much more and getting a bit darker but not much. Tends to retract now more often as well. I think too much light...might have to reset my radion to acclimate once more for another 6 weeks.
