RBTA "shedding" tentacles? Pics

Every once in a while we see a small tentacle from our RBTA on the sandbed and have always though that a fish picked at the Nem. Today we saw one floating around the tank with no indication of damage like you would expect if a fish pulled it off. Do they randomly drop or "shed" tentacles?

No, they don't generally shed tentacles. Do you have any clowns? They're known to nip the tips off tentacles occasionally.

I do but they never leave their Sebae. The RBTAs are the other end of the tank.

last time that happen is i added a new gig to my tank that already have the flame tip bta. as soon as i move the flametip into its own small tank(still the same system) that stop. the clowns do go between the new gig and the flametip not sure if that have anything to do with or not.

Have you checked your tank at night for predators? I'm wondering if you may have a crab or worm that occasionally attacks the nem.

I seen the same thing the other morning. One red tentacle floating on the sand bed. That was the first and last time I've ever seen that. I would like to know how it fell off

My GSM female who never ever ever leaves her RBTA will go across the tank and rip tentacles off other BTAs on occasion. I have noticed it is frequently right before she lays eggs. I have not actually seen here do it but I find the shriveled tentacles on the sand. She almost killed her previous LTA she was hosting by ripping it up. I removed it and it recovered. It really bites when they pick the $300 anemone to chew on.
