Ready to pop!

It has been exactly 5 weeks and 3 days since my pair's last birthing.

They've been sticking together more than usual all day, and, her ovipositor is visible. She's rarin' to go again! LOL And she is showing some plumpness now.

So, does this mean definitely tonight?

I have been watching them as much as possible today. I must catch the event as soon as possible because they are in a community tank and I'm just not equipped yet to give them their own tank. I hope it doesn't happen during the night, or early morning, because I will miss it and lose the fry.

I can't sit in front of the tank watching -- have things to do -- so if anyone actually catches it live on the cam, text me at 516-316-2356

George, this GREAT!! They really are beautiful. I watched for awhile, and I noticed that shrimp was hanging around. The seahorse took off - he was watching that shrimp very closely. The 3-line spent a lot of time digging in the weeds after the pony left. I didn't see any little ones. I hope you don't miss it. Thanks so much for sharing ;)

Hi, John,

I gave the username and password in my post, above. As far as sending it without a "secure connection," well... it's not like you're doing your banking or anything like that, your browser is simply asking should it send the passwod to my webcam, that's all. No big deal.

One other thing, though, you *might* also be asked if you want to install "Panasonic active-x control" -- simply answer yes, it takes just a few seconds, it's a one-time thing, and also is very "safe" as far as your computer is concerned.

Still no babies as/of now, 12:50, Noo Yawk time. I usually put the tank light on around 2pm, but I think I'll do it at 1:00 today for better viewing on the cam.

Ok... time of birth somewhere around 5:30p (last time it was 7:30p). And last time I only managed to scoop 30 out, this time *many* more -- I'd say at least 100.

Here we go again. Will try to keep things more antiseptic -- also gut load the BS a little longer.

Well, if anyone cares, or is looking, I have switched the webcam to the baby bowl. Looks like they're on a Ferris Wheel! Hope I'm doing this correctly this time -- last time I did not use this tumbling method.

YAY babies.... unfortunately, I can't see your webcam :(

Beth,

Again, I have to thank you for cluing me in on how to tell when the male will give birth (watch the female!). I was only off by a day -- I had thought Friday, but he held out another day 'til Saturday. Because of that I was able to salvage many more than last time from my community tank.

I'm trying to keep things cleaner this time... and have ordered Dan's Feed and a new product by Seahorse Source, PhycoPure -- will be here Wednesday. In the mean time, the fry seem to be doing ok -- I am using the "rigid air tubing in drum bowl" method to keep them in motion, since I now know these fry are pelagic. I now think my species is most likely kuda (Abbie suggested I send a photo to Dan for identification, which I will do soon)

Re: my web cam... I had taken it off the tumbling fry (boooooring! lol) and put it back on the Display Tank -- but some people told me they didn't get to see the babies, so I put it back on them. Now... if you're not getting the live feed, the two most common problems are, 1) the user ID and password are case sensitive -- so you must enter them exactly: ID = reef-friends, and pw = Hippocampus; 2) first time accessing it you might be asked to install the "Panasonic active-x control" -- simply ok it or answer yes and it will install in a few seconds (it is safe -- no virus or adware or anything like that), and then you should get the live picture without a problem. I LOVE my webcam -- it's a lot of fun showing friends and family my tanks, dogs, stuff going on here (I'm in the process of setting up two 200gal tanks here -- so sometimes it's pointed at the progress of those builds).

hmm i still see the main tank but congrats

Thanks, mtc. See above -- but it's back on them again -- I'll leave it on through Tuesday night, then back on the adult tank.

Great work, George! I see you're training them for the races already, LOL I hear they do very well with this method. They look really good :D

A fresh water friend took on the challenge of breeding A. ocellaris clowns. After some travails and disappointments, he called me Friday to say his pair was pumping them out at the rate of every 8 to 10 days!!!! He told me to come by and take some. So it's now Baby Fish Central here! LOL

Sal, I'm going to steal your idea of teaching the Clowns to ride the ponies! LOL Hey, whoever accomplishes that first will reap untold riches! LMAO

P.S. to the above... sorry there's no reference to tell their size, but they are still very small -- they're 23 days old. It's amazing that they're colored up and looking like adults at that age.

And my apologies to the forum for this off topic transgression.

George

George - no fair!! You got a jump-start on the ponies!! These look really good. At 23 days, they should be 3/8 - 1/2 inch. I lost the clutch that hatched last week. It's either a sad story or a stupid mistake (I think #2). No problem, Momma's fully loaded and ready to go, likely on Thursday.

Sorry even with your password's I get this;

BL-C131A
Version 3.10R01
Running in IPv4 mode.

Fine whatever it's all good.

No I'm not going to install a Panasonic product to view your live feed.
So can not keep an eye on them .

I posted the above 8 days ago. Overnight, on the fifth day, the first big die-off occurred. The next night another die-off. Sat. and Sun. several more. As of last night I had three left -- but they are active, swimming, and eating.

The million dollar question: WHY? Why on Earth do so many simply drop dead, yet these three are still alive? I know it's not logical because our experts on this forum certainly have great success, but I can't help but wonder if most of them are genetically predisposed to become fish food!

Sigh.

Ok... I will be more ready next time. I have Dan's Feed, I bought a couple of plastic 2gal bowls like Beth uses, I have a 20 long sitting empty, like Beth uses to put the bowls in -- I just need to cut the holes in the sides and replace with mesh (Beth, what exactly do you use for that and how do you attach it?).

In the mean time I will continue to coddle those three live ones and hope for the best for them.
