Red Alert - Is it DOOMED ....

lanshark

It's Landshark, aka SNL
Dang it, have had two TR True Percula hosting this Anemone for a week and EVERYBODY was so happy. Anemone eating well. I feed the Anemone a sizeable peace of silverside last night and not sure if the photo was before or after when it was opened. I just noticed this today and shocked, could somebody have nipped him? Should I remove to refugium for observation?

Could someone confirm anemone id please?

Looks like it just deflated, they purge all the water out of them selves and take in new water. It looks like the foot is still well atached. Keep an eye on it and should be back soon. If you notice deterioration, take it out righ away.

That is typical of either feeding too much or feeding bad food. The anemonesee the need to empty the "bad stuff" inside it so it deflated and dump everything out. good luck with him. BTA are prety forgiven. Hope he will get better quickly

Alot of people have had probs after feeding silversides, I lost 3 healthy LTA's myself after a feeding.
Hopefully it recovers, keep an eye.

I just returned from few errands and I have two VERY happy clownfish and one happy Reef..... :wildone: I'll search this forum for BTA staple foods to use. Actually, for a BTA the size of a man's closed fist, what would be a good feeding regimen? I'm sure it would take food everyday, but is that necessary? :bounce2:Thanks for the input.

I'll save you the trouble of searching. Very finely chopped/grated seafood fit for human consumption. Shrimp, squid, scallop, clam, etc from the grocery store.

Glad I stopped in to this thread. I will no longer feed my RBTA silversides. What do you guys thinks of frozen mysis?

I fed my anemone frozen (thawed of course) mysis boosted with vitamins. Same stuff I periodically feed my fish. I was feeding the RBTA a bit of it every few days. It would eat it just fine, but it grew like mad. I reduced feedings to 1x a week.. it still grew at a good pace, but slower. Now I just feed the tank and it gets what it happens to grab from the water column. Occasionally I'll send a little it's way.

I am a tad constrained on space at the moment... but I'll go back to a consistent weekly feeding regimen once I move over to the larger tank. It will have plenty of room to grow out there.

Basically you don't need to direct feed an anemone... but if you do, it will grow a heck of a lot faster. Proper lighting is very important of course.

Well, I guess I won't be feeding mine silversides anymore after hearing about your loses,I would hate to lose mine, I have a huge rose about 18"-20" diameter. its cool but if it moves I have to move everything out of its way:eek2:

That orange foot makes me think it's a long tentacled anemone. +1 on deflating after large meal. I've heard bad things about feeding nems silversides, so I feed mine thumbnail-sized pieces of thawed shrimp about twice a week; but they'd be fine with once a week feedings. I'm more concerned with good lighting & proper flow. LTA's don't like much flow, but like good lighting-T5's or halides.

Its not an lta they are sand dwellers and their tentacles kind of curl. I have btas with the same color foot. If the op wants to get a pic of the underside of the oral disc we can be sure on an id.
