Red Bugs! - treat entire tank or in QT tank?

That canopy looks professional compared to my ghetto AEFW treatment canopy:D.

i have a question, if you do the treament on the SPS and QT them before you put them in youtr tank to begin with, will you still get red bugs?

golfish - Did you treat your entire system only twice?

Yes, I treated the tank on a Sat and then the following Sat...I'm going to do my second treatment tomorrow and then the third next Sat.

FWIW, I didn't do any water changes after the treatment. I will this week tho only because I'm due for one.

The Reefer91 - Going forward I am going to treat all of my incoming Acro's with Interceptor and QT them to make sure I do not reintroduce Red Bugs again.

gflat65 - that is a pretty ghetto set-up you have going!

PK1 - Thanks for the head's up as my salinity had already risen.

I am having a bit of a heat issue with the lights, but I hooked up a fan to help lower the temp which had risen 4 degree's since the lights came on 3 hours ago ... does not take much with only 10 gallons of water!

This was my warning for you. I know 250watt MH can cook-up a 10gal tank QUICK, if you don't cool it somehow.

Why all the QT set-ups?? Was there a problem that I missed? I finally got the intercepter and was to treat my whole tank. I've waited because people love the red cleaner and when I said he was going to die, we had drama. So I will catch him, maybe.

I have a 92gal corner, I don't know the lbs. but my LR fit into 2 18gal rubbermaids, with plenty room still for h2O. No sump.
How many gallons would you dose for??????

I will post a pic soon to give a better idea.

I'm doing a QT treatment as I do not want to risk my 4 shrimps, urchin, pods and DSB fauna.

As far as the amount of Interceptor to use with your rock displacement, I have heard of some who do not take that into account when treating and some that do. It's a bit of guess work figuring it out ... good luck!

Why not an addition of a Dragonface Pipefish... they are the proven natural preditor of the RED BUGS. Give 'er a google on Dragonface Pipefish, Reef-top Pipefish, or Messmate Pipefish.

reptoreef - I did see that on Drs Foster & Smith site about the Dragonface Pipefish ... I just wonder if anyone has had success with them yet in their tanks.

I've heard about a couple people using them, and them doing fine.

I just worry about any form of natural removal of these things, because its usually not 100% effective.

if the redbugs are controlled and kept to a minimum I would guess they dont have much of an effect on the corals. reading up on them though, they like low current. certainly not the case in an SPS tank
