red carpet please advise

my lfs is not the best, but they got me an awesome red hadoni. i asked them not to un bag it until i got there. i was suprised. it was in 5 gallons of water, and you couldnt see the mouth. as in it was shut tight not gaping open like i was expecting. well i put it in last night and it has attached to the side glass back in the corner. today it ate a fresh piece of shrimp. now my question... i wonder why it has not burried its foot in the sand? the mouth is zip tight and it responds well to the m halides when they are on. do you think in time it will bury down, or is on the glass right at the sand level ok? also my pair of percs are in my ritteri. i would like to see some clowns in the carpet its too big not to have some. any thoughts on what type clowns might really like a hadoni? i would love to get some that would actually feed the nem, and not take food away like my percs do to my ritteri. yes i will try to post a pic. im sure i can find someone to help me.

I am a bit surprised that it hasn't buried its foot already. All of mine have right away. Though it is a good sign that its mouth is closed tight.

Though I do wonder about having it in the same tank as a Ritteri. IME, haddonis haven't done as well when in a tank with another anemone. I have noticed that they move around more in those cases. Been with BTAs and LTAs.

I just added a blue Haddoni with a pair of Polymnus clowns. They went into the tank together at around 3pm. When I got home at midnight they were hosting in it, just like they're suppose to. Also its foot was buried in the sand. I cleared a divet down to the glass and let it settle. Its great.

i also was wondering about housing with another nem. i may have to find a home for my ritteri. i hate that because it took so long to find a nice one, but it took longer to find a nice red. my problem is trying to find a home. i would never take something like that to my lfs. also i checked this morning and foot is still in the same place. mouth still not visible, and nem is huge even with only moon lights on. should i leave it alone or try to help it to another location?

I would leave it alone. When it starts getting over the stress of shipping, it will find a spot in the sand on its own. I wold keep the Ritteri as well. In a 125, it should be easy to keep these two anemones away from each other. I'm glad to hear you won't take it to the LFS. Do we get to see pics?

yes i will get a pic up tonight. the tank is now a 180. i run carbon through a canister filter with a uv light so i think that would help any problems between the two. also sump volume is another 40 gallons at least.

With 220 gallons of water, carbon, and hopefully a skimmer, I would be much more concerned about harm to the anemone by moving it, than by aleopathy. If it were two anemones that shared the same type of environment, I would be a little more concerned. With H. Mag and Haddoni, even if one of them started to move, it would be unlikely that they would bump into each other. The Mag hasn't shown any signs of stress since the introduction of the Haddoni, right?

Just keep a close eye on both anemones. I have not had any luck keeping a haddoni or a gigantea with my magnificas but other people have had no problems. Good luck and keep us posted.....and we need pictures.

well my mag looks somewhat deflated when i got home. well half is and half is still inflated. the mag is mostly always out and full. so is this due to the addition of the carpet.?. i knew i would go through this when i bought the carpet. the worry of having mixed nems in the same tank that is. i will hate to loose either. the mag is one of the red base with white tips and the carpet is real red. i will get my son to help with some pics later. in the mean time ill watch things closely. thanks for all the input here. also tank does have a good protien skimmer along with calcium reactor plenty of water movement with 2 seaswirls on a closed loop and 3 250 watt mh with pc atinics.
