Red Dragon 3 Speedy Pump 80 Watt Sale?

Hi,

Sorry not yet, we are going to pick it up with our next order though, but will be after the holiday. if not in a hurry though we could make you a special price on it.

Just ordered the 80 watt pump. I have approx 9 feet of head I hope it's powerful enough! If it isn't my manifold just got a really nice upgrade!

My tank is 200 gallons. I installed the pump and with the 9 feet of head I am getting 1000 GPH. I want to get at least 8 times turn over. My return lines are split. Would adding another pump do the trick? Or should I just wait for the stronger pump to be released? I do like the idea of having 2 pump in case of failure.

Thanks,

Adam

Hi Adam,

Having 2 pumps would be nice, if one goes down, you at least have emergency flow. Basically would be better then having a backup pump in the closest just in case.

If you have split returns, you would run one return from each pump to each return right?

That's the plan. I am going to plumb this one in over the weekend. If the actual flow seems decent but just not enough turn over I will order another one to add to the rest of my cart that's not on sale!

Thanks,

Adam

I just received mine. The fittings are imperial sizes -- 1.5" inlet 1" outlet. Easy peasy. I think I'm going to have an easy time fitting it to my existing system.

Thank u! It looks like I have a problem on the inlet because my bulkhead size is1". I think the RD3 manual says that the inlet size should be the equal or larger than the RD inlet size which is 1.5". Any opinion?

Perfect! I just ordered some red 1" Schedule 80 PVC on a pre-black Friday sale! Now I just need to have my tank delivered.

I'm thinking to use the pump externally. I do not have enough space in a chamber of the sump for the return pump.

If it were me, I'd try to increase the size of the existing hole to accept a 1-1/2 inch bulkhead. I'm pretty sure it is not a good idea to starve these pumps, it could cause cavitation.

Since I bought BK double cone 250, I need to replace my sump with a larger size.
I bought RD3 80W as well, so I have two choices how to use RD3. One is for in sump and other is external. If I want to use the RD3 in sump, do I need to put any PVC at the inlet side? Or just use it as it is?
Your input is very appreciate.

Takayan - We are in the same boat. I got a Marin 200 and a 80 Dragon 3 Speedy 80 Watt W/10V. I am looking for a sump to house them. Let me know what you end up doing?

Great! We can update each other. I have not ordered my sump yet because I need to find out what I need. What is ur sump design?

I believe RE recommends the use of a perforated inlet pipe to keep out snails and other things that could jam the impeller. They sell one on their German website, but not on their US site. I'm going to make one out of 1.5" pvc.
