Red Dragon Acro

250 gal i agree!!!
I cannot imagine the red is a true color. The red pics i see is more browned out that anything else. Its a pink coral with blue growth.
Should be called snap dragon acro. ;)

It is not a red coral. Pink/fuscia with blue tips (when happy) and white polyps. Thin branching. Like the name!

Yup that is it. I got it directly from the guy who provides RR with it, great coral. Owned it for about 4-5 years.

Is this the one your talking about 250G? Nice piece and pics. I remember you posting this piece all that time ago. When this was released by CITR via ReefRaft, I thought of your piece being where it came from based on your location and pics. I tried posting in the following thread to get your opinion. I miss your pictures.

Not a slow grower, But the scale of it is very small so it could double in size and it the grand scheme its still a small acro. Mostly because its thick beanches are thinner than most new groth of other acro's. It does not encrust either it will just start growing.

I have recently acquired a frag for some trading. It isn't the lineaged piece, but looks just like it. I thought I was going to lose it, as the tissue started to peel. Jury is still out, but I'm hopeful at least right now. It has been a week and it still has tissue on it.

When/if it recovers, I will shoot some pics of it colored up. Right now it is a pale red, mostly from shipping and dipping I suspect.

Saw that one. FWIW, I almost bought the mother colony that he got. If I had known how well the frags sold on here, I would have bought it, too. 1k shipped and then I could have made 8 frags at $250-300 each. Pretty profitable!

This red dragon looks great but it is way over priced. I would like to know how long it has been in captivity. Time will tell! Good luck with the 250 frag!

REEF FARMER"S (Steve Tyree) Just had an auction for a frag from the CITR colony.
I was very tempted to bid on it.
Wish I did it went for $255 winning bid.
IMHO I'm still tempted to buy a piece for $250 but I might wait it out till it come's down.
Look at the Miami Hurricane chalice you can get frag's of that now for as low as $50 it's because so many people have it
From what I was told the Red Dragon was a hard coral to keep alive and not worth the gamble but in fact it still is alive and IMO is worth the gamble.
Congrats and I hope it grow's out well for you nice grab.
Im jealous lol

A couple of shots of mine...

Based on growth form alone this is a nice coral, very unique and while not a true red (what acro is...) the color is quite nice...

Yeah, he (Tyree) was spotted in the so cal store where the mother is talking about it and putting an LE stamp on it. Funny how he makes the rounds to local fish stores and hobbyists tanks... immediately driving up the price. Oh well, we live in a capitalist society and all.

Nice coral for sure, but very pale pink in person from what I've seen. Not red... I'll spend my $250 on 10 corals prettier than that one. JMO

No! :lmao:

Oh wait, I don't have the "red dragon" :lol2:

You don't have any more room dude. You need a bigger tank.

agreed - I traded for the now infamous RED DRAGON way back........and grew it into 2 large colonies http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1683709

trading is a nice way not to assign $$$ to your nicest stuff....and get something nice in return, and some insurance should you lose your colony

Haha OK your right.

I have a tank full of SPS corals.

Not everyone is out to make a buck, there are tons of friendly hobbyists in So Cal that I get 5 and 10 dollar frags from all day long, also FREE.

Is it just me or am I seeing this red dragon in all sorts of different shades or colors? It doesnt seem very consistent from tank to tank.
+1 on that echinata
