Red Dragon/Flowstar VS Water Blaster?

For the ~ $70 difference in price, I'm sure that would be enough to put a pad of some sort on the bottom and still have some $ left over.

I've never had the water versions, but have had Askoll based and BB skimmer pumps and the Askolls were quieter. The BB/WB have some nice features such as being able to orient the outlet in 3 different positions.

I believe they are not saltwater safe. They use a brass retainer ring on the impeller, not sure but something brass in the impeller?

Laguna Max Flo 1500 is the pump that the Red Dragon and FlowStar are made from. They will all have similar flow and power use. The Max Flo can be had for under $150.

Max Flo 2000 seems to be a bit cheaper

I have a Laguna Max-Flo 1500, it is dead silent and has no brass. I bought it on ebay from a freshwater pond company for $100 shipped to my door. It took 2 days shipping from Colorado to FL. and it too has a factory warranty. Save your money and cut out the middle man, it is the same pump as RD or Flowstar.

Are you sure that is the same pump as the RD?? I have a couple RD pumps and the Laguna Max Flo that I saw when looking up your model looks nothing like the RD pumps. Maybe I am looking at an incorrect model. Can you post a link?

RD puts their own machined PVC volute on the Askoll pump which is why it looks so different.
