Red Dragon Frags

I think for SPS... if you can actually counts how many polyp is on the thing you're buying... not worth it.

Pretty soon we'll be paying for "5 polyps" of the rainbow dragon acro instead of a 1" frag

If you can afford it, go for it. You'll be the one taking care of it and looking at it all the time, so if you like it and you feel like you're gonna regret it later for not buying it, i'd say pick it up. I'd bargain for the second or thrid one though.

Good luck! :)

If you really want it you should go for it! Yes maybe you will find a cheaper one next year but it doesn't matter because then yours is a small colony (hopefully)! Don't risk it, choose the second one

I paid full price for a 1 inch frag with zero branches, it just had some nubs on the stalk. Like you, I wanted it for a long time. I had some extra money and bought it. Fortunately for me it is a fast grower and it is now 2 inches with a nice fork and lots of short branches like in the first photo. If you want it, get it. This coral doesn't encrust much so I am not sure if the first frag will ever re-encrust the receded area. If it truly is stable, you could get the first one and let it grow a bit and then cut the damage off and re-glue it. The second and third ones look like they would make a nice multi branched colony though. I would get the one YOU like best, because if you don't, later you will kick yourself. Heck, the 100 bucks difference wouldn't even fill my Expedition with gas.

It's a nice piece, if you think it's worth it go for it. I can't say i would or wouldn't until I've seen one in person, but I've paid that much for frags. Smack dab in the middle of my tank is a bubble gum milli I paid a fair amount for, but I really dig them. Hopefully one day it will grow into an amazing piece. For now it's just a hairy brown frag with hints of blue/red and a little GFP infection lol.

Besides who is to say whats over priced. If you like it, got the money, won't miss the money then why not..if it's TOP Ramana for a week or an Acro then you should probably be rethinking the hobby. ;)

It sure looks pretty but as a reefer Im tired of getting price gouged for a stick that someone gave a cool name. Maybe if all reefers unite and boycott the sale of Red Dragon the price will drop so we can all share in the beauty. But if you like it buy it!

I used to get all upset, I still think the naming is silly, but it is what it is.. Until we get controllers that can constantly test for ALK, Calc, Mag, Salinity, for ultimate control and easy tank stability So everybody can have a perfect SPS farm of a tank.. Those that can grow will always be able to set the price for those that can't.. unfortunately I'm still in the can't category.. but i'm getting better ;)

I think everyone is nuts!

However, after seeing what people blow in a casino and/or a gentlemen's club, (term used loosely) I am all for, and in agreement with your insanity.

I wouldn't spend that kind of coin on the piece that is 1/3 dead already. If I had to pick, I'd probably spend the extra money on the piece without STN. If you go with the first one and it continues to STN then you will end up wanting to buy another one and will then have spent $300+
Do either of these peices have PE in person?

If you belive that your tank can support such a coral then do it, Greg is a very accomplished reefer. I would not think twice to buy from him.

If you can afford it, I'd get the second one since it is already encrusting.

On a side note, who cares if people think you're crazy. If it were a common sps, everyone would have a large colony in their tank. Yes I will use the word...currently it is a RARE color morph in the hobby. When it gets more popular and more people start fragging it, the price will come down and the mass judgers will buy it then. But until that happens, let the people judge you while you are happily looking at your newest frag in your tank!

go for it bro. if you really want it, pull the trigger. i've seen it in person and it is a nice coral, but definitely not worth the price. not trying to move you into a new direction, just giving you some insight. great looking piece though :)
Thanks for letting me know what you think. It is an awesome looking acro for sure but i am skeptical about the price too hence I post this thread

Not worth the price IMO. Red Dragon is very cool but WAY overpriced. 150-250 dollars for a small 1-2 inch frags, I will pass. I would pay $50 for the STNed one and maybe $80 for the second one, tops.
I think this one is way nicer looking than the rainbow delight acro which goes for 90 a frag. It's prettier and not a common acro u see very often. I would pay a lil more for it.
Looks nice but I can get 3 or 4 very nice frags from local reefers for the price of the one that STN'd. I'm not gonna say you're nuts because if it's something that looks good to you and you're not paying with the rent money then there's no reason you shouldn't buy it but I'd have to pass at that price.Mike
And a huge colony for the price of the second one
Definately not worth the price in my mind. Its nice but its not 3-5x as nice as any other coral so why should I pay 3-5x the price?
It may not be 3-5x as nice for the going price but 6-9x as nice for my tank. :) I have seen a few variations in different tanks which makes it more appealing to me, not to mention how sexy this acro looks as well.
do you think it is a lokani?
Doesn't look like a lokani to me. A reefer suggested it could be http://sdmas.com/corals/72.php

Eric Borneman and Anthony Calfo said it better than I can. Yes you are nuts. :)

Don't be one of them. :)
:crazy1: Too late!!!! If they saw my tank they'd say everythiing!!!! j/k I'm optimistic that if I had one it will turn out nice.

Imagine the price for a humilis. How is your new acro doing? very nice piece

Thanks. I tried to at 200 for the second one. He wouldnt budge. A friend is finding out if he could get a better deal for me. Hopefully it works out:(

Thanks. I was leaning more towards the second one. The frag is tiny so it's hard to imagine paying the asking price for it, but when i see it I see a mini colony of great potential
If i had the $ i would swipe one up, i think they are sexy!

Ask for a fresh cut 150$ piece!
Yeah, i like deepwater corals and this one looks just so nice in its simplicity and growth and color. the 150 frag posted is no longer an option for me

Thanks for that advice. It's good to hear that's it a fast grower. I hate slow growth because I like sharing with other reefers

buy it buy it you must have it in your tank ..they are soo cute...I have yet to see a full sized colony pic though do they exist?

Honestly, if I had the money I would get the second one. Appears to be healthier and a hardier piece. Plus, it has branches, as opposed to just corallites, and the coloration seems to be better.

You also have that whole full tissue thing going on ;)

EDIT: Just looked at the second pic again... bottom right of the frag there appears to be something fuzzy? Check that out.

buy it bro, it's a sweet coral :D

there's always going to be negative comments about expensive corals ;)

Brian lets buy the 150.00 frag 75.00 each, you grow it in your tank then we frag that sucker you get 1/2 and i get the other 1/2
