Good to know we don't have the "knock-offs"! :)

BTW Darryl, I think you have one too? How's it doing, pics?

Just some history on this.......it was imported many years ago to Ontario, Canada and grown by a guy named Terry. Since Terry is firefighter people started to call it fire fighter fuscia.....this acro first got noticed on RC when Dave Jelly (250g former TOTM) posted a nice picture of it. Since this acro had been grown in captivity for quite some time already and Terry's mother colony was a good size he sold quite a bit of it to RR canada who I believe started calling it Red Dragon. RR canada managed to sell a nice colony to CITR who got Tyree to name it an LE.

Considering how long the red dragon has been around here I have only had this coral for 1.5yr....grown from a tiny frag as well.

Darrel - Thant is an amazing piece. Thank You for sharing. I received mine from a well known SPS guy in the area I am going to see if I can get the lineage.

I follow up with the guy that I got the frag from and he said it came from a person named Tomasz whom got it from Reef Raft in CA.

Thanks for the pic Darryl......

That is one amazing red dragon! I love the delicate growth pattern and the white polyps of this acro!

I'm hoping mine will be a nice centerpiece in my tank someday.

i have a 1" frag...i have it on the size right now...what kind of light do i need...i have about 200 Watts of DIY LED...high or low light?????

Hey hongl227..... In my experience with my RD, lower light provided a darker color while high light made the RD look lighter. I presently have mine in lower light because I prefer the darker colors.

Maybe others can chime in.

Here are a couple of photos of my CITR red dragon about one year apart:

September 2011 (look at the tiny pink frag at the bottom of the photo)

Here it is recently (about one year later, and I have moved it farther down in the tank). The growth tips seem to be a light pinkish blue when it gets really, really happy and growing. The top pic is a cell phone and the bottom pic is from a real camera. As others have experienced, not much encrusting at the base. (Still on original plug)

Thanks..for the info

Darryl, that is one of the craziest, most ridiculously nice corals i have ever seen!!!

i am going downstairs to tell my wife that it is time for me to set up another tank!

then, i am going to drive to ontario and camp out on your from lawn until you will sell me a frag of that beauty (actually, now that i am in full fantasy mode, i will probably bring a trunk full of cash and try to purchase MOST of the corals in your tank!!)

that coral alone has just put me over the top. I cannot go any longer without a tank :headwally:

It's funny how many people fall for the knock-off. I guess it's easy to fall for it to the untrained eye. The real red dragon will always look the same. I haven't seen a single knock-off look close to the real deal. :)

Great growth on your Red Dragon!

What's a knock off Red Dragon?....what does it look like and who made it?.
It doesn't make sense to me...... I can get the same coral direct from Bali in the UK.

We have had them for years. So which is the knock off?

Mo

Some of the "knock offs" grow thicker and less delicate. The knock offs are probably a different species but similar looking. These lineaged pieces people claim to have the "real" red dragon because they can follow the owners back up to the origional person who named it. So in their eyes that makes it legit, not saying thats wrong but to think that someone had the only piece of red dragon in the ocean is funny to me :debi:

Similar ones are not near as delicate...i have seen the ones from bali. I have yet to see one the same in real life or in pictures.

Please post up a picture of one that you feel is the same from anywhere other than the original red dragon source....
