red gig

The last three pictures are saturated, ask any professional photographer , and he will tell you about it, it could be a nice purple gigantea. About the first one, you just can see the anemone, and the rock under is almost white??.
What I said is I know you have three Giganteas, I have seen 1000 pictures of them in this forum. If you got a red one I bet I will see it millions pictures in this forum.

We only see four pictures , and any of them is really clear, if you like to believe in fairy tails, good for you , I just want a see a REAL PROBE, like you are being doing with your ones.

lol you really think this is a spoof?.....

Ok so here are two pics, left and right side, Iphone pic, at night no touching up, under Radiums.

please don't take offense, Jason

please don't take offense, Jason

for what it's worth... iphone pictures don't do this beautiful aquarium justice.

Jason,
The video posted by boozeman is the same aquarium but most be sometime ago. It is an incredible aquarium. Just may as well that you are not within driving distance from be because if you are (just to echo somebody here before) you have no problem empty my wallet and more. (I have plastic too).

Did you change your light from the time the video was taken (seem to be under MH) vs current light set up?

How deep is the sand bed? I love those garden eels you have. The fishes are out of this word also. Those angels and butterflies.

What an exceptional tank. I have seen plenty of tanks but have never seen any tank that is even close to yours.

Sorry guys- Haven't had time to take some proper pics, I'm afraid. Will try soon.
Thanks Minh!- Sandbed is between 3 and 6 inches. Lighting is the same since day one- 6 x 400w Radiums, 6 4ft VHO- and a couple of years ago I added 6 4ft Reefbrite strips. Manual dosing of 2 part, mag and Lugols. Carbon and GFO- 200 gallon/week water change with IO salt. Standard feeding of mysis, cyclopeeze etc, along with a coral food that we make ourselves. Temp- 81.

Got an chance to see this tank again and take some pics and video of the gigantea with my phone. They aren't the best but if this isn't a gigantea, I don't know what is. Gorgeous specimen and an amazing tank. Also has an amazing huge green gigantea on the left side of the tank and a pair of really nice purple base yellow tentacled ritteris at the top of the tank.

I'm still out of town but will try to upload the pics and video when I return. My one gripe with the store is that he wouldn't get one of those ritteris out for me :)

Thanks for the videos and photos. I am convinced it is indeed a red gig. The tank itself is INCREDIBLE. I would love to see it in person.

That short video doesn't do the tank justice. Second time I've seen the tank. Easily in the top 3 for store display tanks I've ever seen. Really a testament to the skills of the owner, Jason. He told me that the gig came in tiny as a "red ricordia" a few years ago. I wish I could come across something like that :)

2 PBTs in that tank as well as a gorgeous blue spot filefish and garden eels.

Really nice store as well.

definitely NOT haddoni
Going off of the verrucae i presume? I remain skeptical, with the info given i can't agree. Need more detailed pix such as the mouth, i.e., ^"Much of central oral disc bare, but deep oral disc folds may hide mouth." (S. gigantea).

This one is haddoni, i do see some darker colored verrucae in this pic - ^^"Small, non-adhesive verrucae on uppermost column are same colour as column or light rose to purple." (S. haddoni).

GreenwichAquaria is my local store - I will inquire of the owner. Tank in question is absolutely spectacular. Has a ritteri that has split at least three times that I can see. Also has the healthiest Regal I have ever seen.

is it far from new haven? id like to go and take a look

I regularly visit this LFS and can attest that it is a gigantea, or at least a gig-haddoni hybrid. Interesting note is that it is in a relatively low flow part of the tank. This may explain the stubbier look of the tentacles, as IME, gigs get shaggier with heavy flow. Also interesting to note is that it is in a more shaded part of the tank. Uncharacteristic for a gig but may explain the unique appearance.

Also would like to take this opportunity to rant a bit: Although this is overall an excellent LFS with healthy livestock and knowledgeable sales associates, it's quite uncanny that ALL the most desirable livestock ends up in the show tank. I can't recall seeing any gigantea - let alone a red - for sale. Coral selection for sale is just average aside from the obligatory frags from the show tank. Fish selection is standard (new species, rare color variants and hard to find fish almost inevitably find their way to the show tank).

Jason is a passionate aquarist and I totally understand the temptation to hoard all the best stuff for your own tank (especially at wholesale prices), but he needs to spread the love a bit. I am sure I speak for most here when I say that dedicated aquarists (myself included) would spend a small fortune for something as rare and spectacular as a red gigantea.
