Red Mushroom trouble

Hell everyone,

I need some advice. My red mushroom coral isn't doing so well. Recently it has begun to close up and not spread out as much as it had before. It is in a low-moderate water flow area towards the bottom of the tank. It is a 28 gallon nano-cube and I had the water tested a couple days ago. Alkalinity was high and calcium was low but I have been adding calcium to the water to help balance that out for the past couple days. I did a small water change yesterday as well, just about 2 gallons.

Some things I have noticed is that the the hermits in my tank typically climb around or on the mushroom and there is a lot of traffic for them in this area.

The mushroom is also pulling away from where it connected to the rock (I believe this is called its foot?) I have been told that sometimes the mushroom will bail from its current location if it is not happy... think this is happening.

Thanks,

Josh

Maybe you are overdosing? Check your water parameters, its really hard to kill a mushroom lol and if you want another red mushroom you can have one of mine they grow like weeds

Yea id check the water again too. Shrooms are one of the hardest things to kill and I have had em close up for a few days on me they always do great after a WC. Also I had a 29bc for a year I didnt dose anything all I did was a 2.5g water change weekly whats your wc schedule?

I have been doing a water change every 10 days... I am going to take water to the LFS tomorrow to get it checked again. (I just ordered the testing kit.) When the lights are off it just kind of hangs from the rock almost like it is wilting...

yea Ninja (lol :) actually brings up a good point.. they often look all weird and "unhealthy" when they are changing/splitting. For example I had an anemone split on me one time and it looked downright deadly all curled up and then it was happier than ever. I mean I am pretty new to this too but my experience with shrooms has been that they are very hardy and I doubt yours is doing that badly because other things in the tank would be the first indicators. Do you have any fish?

Ps, like I said earlier, if your shroom does decide to go on ya I have some I can frag you as well as maybe something else, but wait until you check out your water and make sure things are up to par

I have a frogspwn, a zoa, and an anemone that are all doing fine, in fact they all look great! The two clowns and lemon clown goby are healthy as well.... I'll let you know what the LFS test brings back today.

puffer_fish; thanks for the offer, I will definitely take you up on that! I love this site and CMAS and how helpful everyone is.

once every 3 months? :-)

Unfortunately I cant get to the LFS to test the water today, (stupid grad school) but you think it will bounce back?

mushrooms are pretty resilient. it will come back when the alk starts to lower. my blue one shrunk to the size of a pencil eraser, then came back and is the size of a half dollar. df
