Red planet gone white

My rather large coral after 2 years has decided to bleach out. I am not great with alk numbers however I have been doing the same thing right along. So I'm guessing alk issue. It still has color at base. Will the white ever color up again or do I remove all the white? It is the only one that is behaving badly.

why alk... no other suspects? You removed that big chalice coral. What else changed?

Don't think anything dipped. Changed flow a little bit. Removed big chalice that was somewhat close. What other things would cause a whiteout. Does it color up again when it's happy again? Everything else looks happy.

It's a bad picture but it's growing up back glass behind some other stuff.
Nothing stinging it though.

I just remembered I changed the gfo a couple of days ago. I put a little more than usual in and moved the bag to an area with a little more flow. Is that the problem? If so, do I take some out and hope it colors up or just cut it back?

Paul was the chalice shading the red planet and now is it getting blasted with light?

It was not shaded by the chalice.

gfo can cause a dip in alkalinity

I had this problem not o long ago when I upped my gfo a little to much. I cut it back down and everything has colored back up. Give it a try and see what happens. It took about 2 weeks.

Are there polyps on the part that bleached? Or has there been complete tissue loss on the white part?

I took the gfo out. The base still has color. Some of the glass growth has some color. I'm assuming that if tissue is gone it won't come back on that part. I'll leave alone and see what happens. I'll be more careful with gfo in the future.
