red planet light requirement

I also have 2 colonies of rp in the tank, one is directly under 2 AI sols and its bright red. The other is middle bottom of the tank and its red with a green base.

I have the exact same thing, colony up high is all red with just the hint green base. Piece down low is green with red tips.

Im I the only one that prefers it to have a nice green base?

No you are not.

Originally when ORA came out with the RP, many people were concerned about having no green. It was determined, as already has been mentioned, that light levels played a part in this coral. The green showed under lower light and more red in high light conditions.

I prefer the green base. I had a nice tabling RP and a very unusual color combo. It was more of a turquoise green with pink tips. Sadly, I lost this piece when I had a tank crash a good while back.

I remember reading a while back that it's called the Red Planet because it was intended to have the earthy, green color base of, well...our planet.

With that said, I'd do what makes you happy. It's your darn coral. If you want it blood red stick it in the upper third of your tank, or down in the middle or lower portion if you want the green base. I happen to like the green base so it sits 4 inches off the sand bed under a 400 watt Radium.
