Red-Sea Regal Angel?

But IMO, totally worth the risk. I don't keep any LPS in my display just so I can keep a Regal and a Majestic angel.

Worth the risk for sure, if the fish will nip at your corals or not it is a toss up. I know a guy who has one in his 375g sps tank with no problems but they are prone to nipping at LPS. I think if you keep the angel well fed you should be able to curve the nipping. Good luck hope it all works out for you, regals are beautiful fish
Been through this before.... You have to ask yourself this question. Is a $100 to $150 fish worth putting in danger a few thousand dollars worth of coral.
I can tell you through experience, the only angel that will not nip at your LPS and Softies are SwallowTails, and similar genicanthus angels....
Regals, Majesties, Blue Lines Ect Ect will eventually taste, nip or destroy your reef.
I have had all of the above and had to learn the hard way....With my setups they slowly over time would destroy my corals... Wouldn't be any one coral.... One day the regal would nip at a clam, other days Open brains, other days Lobos, Pluck Zoos....
People that post on here that say they have such angels I truly believe they are looking at small windows of time with minimal damage... Ask them 2 years of time with Angels and I guarantee you they have FOWL tanks.... Period... Maybe SPS tanks can sustain them.... But not LPS or Less...
It's really funny. Saying keeping a fish well fed means you need to over feed your tank to keep this fish happy. You claim to have SPS... SPS need pristine water quality... Why over feed an Angel at the expense of your SPS... I suppose if you plan on doing 4 water per month and have a super skimmer you could counter act it??? That has also led me to have awful water over the years... Over feed a fish, get bad water, and then corals die from bad water parameters... (Another issue all together).
Look at the pic of my Avatar... One of my favorite fish I ever owned... Red Sea yellow belly... He womped my reef over time.....
I say this with tons of respect...
And I say this to you. You probably truly want this fish and your mind is made up. You probably need to try, learn, and have the same experiences we all have had with Angels...

had one in my reef for 7 years sold my 450 buddy of mine still has him
he eats zoas and GSP.
when I had him he picked on an open brain occasionally but not enough to kill it
tank was mostly SPS he never touched

I have kept multiple angels in my reefs and my regal along with my bandits have been my most reef friendly. I cannot imagine having a reef tank without at least one angelfish.
In my opinion the risk is well worth the reward. Give it a shot, get a juvenile and work with it. Fish add personality to a reef, coral simply does not.
As for feeding fish heavily equaling bad water. I feed very heavily and have for the last four years on my current system, and my water quality is great. It takes work and dedication but it can be done.

There are 100 percent reef safe fish that will nip at corals... My Adult Hippo Blue Tang nips at Open Brain Wellsophylia from time to time. Like I said above, is one really nice fish worth your entire reef....
And I'm sure there are people that have done it. But through experience and research via this forum, it's not the best idea.
I think he should get the fish and learn from his experiences just like we all did...

Becareful with the juvenile being safer than adults when it comes to corals. I recently added a juvenile blueface to try and pair up to my adult( did not touch corals) and in a week the juvy destroyed a ton of corals, not just picking on them but killing before moving on.
