red star fish problem

i have had a red star fish in my aquarium for 6 months or so. I have been away for a couple of days and when i came home it was missing 3 legs. the legs are sitting at the bottom of the tank...not sure what happened or what to do...he is still hanging on to the glass...any ideas?

It's likely starving to death. It can take months to years to occur depending on the size and maturity of the tank, but this is the typical manifestation.
