I think you all need to re look at the way this fish store is taken care of . its the same store it was before . bare tanks, dead fish,
dead acclimating fish and shrimp . coral selection ??? where ??.
ok maybe the dry goods are ok but didn't look after the quick look down the isles we left . the only change to that store was the reposition of the cash register and the heaters blowing on the glass so they wont steam up and make an ice sheet out side the store

dead acclimating fish and shrimp? Huh?

There was a huge change from the old store, the owner. The old store was poorly took care of and not only had dead fish in the tanks, but dead fish on the floor and between all the tanks that had jumped out 6 months earlier. Before 5 guys who didn't know hardly anything about the animals sat behind the counter and talked to each other and ignored costumers. Try walking in the store now and finding one person sitting on the butt. You won't find it. They are always working.

If you stocked your little fish tank full of corals in 4 months then you probably didn't know what you were doing and probably over stocked your tank too fast or just always stuck with beginner corals. How long has the store been open and how long have the tanks had to cycle? The other reason the coral selection is low is because he is selling most of the new corals he is getting in fast.

Final question what store do you think is the best in Delaware? As stated in previous threads Premium Aquatics was voted the best, but taking into account how long the store had been opened. It is a brand new store with a brand new owner. Many of the other LFSs in the state of Delaware have been open longer then 5-6 years and still are not what the salt water hobbyist desire.

I would rather you not start a new vote as the voting on RC forum is flawed in how easily it is to get a new screen name and vote as many times as you would like. I also don't think it is fair to vote on what is best when each and every shop has it's ups and downs and there is something decent about 90% of them.

HAHA- half of our members have part-time gigs there! ^^ I don't think you'll get much sympathy. I agree that the tanks looked bare, but I've not been back for around two months. Maybe it's better now.

I stopped in there today... place looks clean and the tanks look alot cleaner then the old owners... Tanks were pretty much EMPTY for the most part but im hopping that was mainly because everyone was in there over the weekend doing their holiday reef shopping.

The tanks have been pretty much empty, but I think it is because it's still new. I'd rather see a store take it nice and slow then fast and trying to make a buck. It seems they do care about their livestock, reputation and business, although sometimes can be a little pricey. As far as LFS in delaware, they are probably going to be the best IMO, they are still new and need time to grow though. I still prefer to buy my livestock either off forum members or other major companies (THR,TPP) I may eventually try online though. Every once in a while I will go on a LFS round to see if anyone has anything cool, unusual or cheap for sale, usually don't find it though.

I drove through Newark twice in the past week, and couldn't find the store...(I didn't look real hard). Where is it in reference to the Library?
I'm coing up from MAryland on I 95

Leave the library and make a right on Library Ave. Follow until you see WaWa on your left (that'll be Rt.4). make a left on to Rt.4 and travel approx. 1 mile. You'll see a large shopping center on your right (Shoprite), the store is tucked in to the corner by the Curves and the Hradware store.

Ok, I just went to premium aquactis today, haven't been there in a long time since the prices got jacked up etc. But I was very dissapointed!!!! They weren't open!!! What successful business is closed on tuesdays!!!!!??????? Looks like it will be another long time before I go back, I couldn't believe it, I knew I should have gone home straight after school, haha.

AS LONG AS THEY FILL THOSE OTHER TANKS IN THAT ONE ISLE AND NOT HAVE THEM EMPTY FOR YEARS LIKE GREEN BANK ALMOST 3 YEARS AND HAS THEM BIG *** TANKS EMPTY FILL M UP

A little short handed still, i guess. cant do much in the way of set up while tending the customers. but getting there. I think the Tues. off is to help catch up with the empty tank set up, feeding and cleaning. other stores have a day off too. for good behavior.

Shipping is still the biggest contributor to fish die off. lots of losses due to cold or hot weather or misplaced shipments. The problem could be solved with more local breeders of salt water fish and coral. we have a few in the club who have been sucessful, as I once was, breeding and selling Bangai Cardinal fish to some stores for two years. No die offs in my local deliveries. Just healthy fish.

The highest achievement in reefing is not just keeping wild caught things you buy, alive, but learning how to breed and reproduce them. Then it is A sustainable hobby. And you can make some spare change too!

So are you a Consumer? Or Producer?

Good thawt TP.

I think we all can and should be a little of both. In my observations, I have noted that while all reefers may not be able to keep all things at all times, most of us have at least one thing that prospers in our tank systems. and that one thing can be exploited for the benefit of us all. when we each figure out what that one thing is, well,? then we are having fun.

And then:

Oh!

By the way?

Can we make a trade?

I'd say both consumer and producer as well. Will PA take coral trades? I have lots of colt and green mushrooms. I was just a little mad that they were closed, I haven't been in months, and the day I do go, they won't let me in, haha. Just a little frustrating.

PA told me they would buy fish fry from anyone who could produce them...we were discussing the saddleback clown babies they have at the time.

DamnPep, what are you going on about? The prices were not jacked up. I still don't know what you are talking about there. You also act as if you drove 3 hours to get there as well. It is 2 minutes away! When I get back I'll give you the penny for gas money spent. :-P

I called on tuesday night to make an order of lights from there and got throu, so maybe they opened later in the day. I dunno just adding my 2 cents.

It appears that things are not The same as when they first opened , and this store is just like all other stores in the area .The original poll clearly showed that this store is the best ,It To me does not appear that way now Maybe credit needs to go out to ALL lfs`s for the jobs they do,or don't do . You may think they all stink in one way or another , but they are all just the same . And do you know who makes them this way ??????

We do ...

This hobby is so expensive you don't want to spend big bux on fish or corals every week . lfs gets in stock... stock dies ... lfs jacks price due to death ... no one buys ... lfs refuses to stock stuff that will die .. now lfs stinks .. lfs out of business .

So the lfs`s who has been around for a long time needs and deserves credit in my opinion .. :)

Jon, I moved out of my apartment so I am a little farther away now, make it a quarter, lol. Not to mention the freezing cold! Their prices weren't bad, but I have noticed a decent increase sicne they have been open. I haven't been there in well over a month, probably longer though. I still think the best thing to do for corals is trading and buying/selling through forum members, get the best deals that way.
