Hey Willie, I noticed you used flexible tubing for what seems to be your returns. Any particular reason you chose this method? I am assuming you wnt flexible to avoid any friction or resistance. Would it be too much to ask for a picture of what your return looks like in your display tank? Thanks!

I used the flex because it was easier and faster to hook up,and it probably has less friction, but I may later change it out for PVC,..the return in my tank is 2 45 degree elbow on each side unglued so I can point 'em where I want....I haven't taken any pics of it yet but I will :)

Why did you change out the flex hose? I know I'm not there, but the plumbing looks good to me. That's a problem with the sump. Instead of starting over with the sump, can you build another one and plumb them together?

I just had the flex in there so I could get the water moving...I didn't like the looks of the flex hose.....

adding an extra sump is probable what I'll do,plumb it in with the bulkhead where the pump is now,and tee to the pump....but I doubt I'll build another,I'll just find an old aquarium that'll fit in there and drill it.....I need a fuge also,so I try to find something big enough for that and extra sump room :D

Willie, it is looking awesome. I have followed this thread from the beginning but never said a lot until now, it looks awesome!

I asked in another thread but is there anywhere I can go read on plywood tanks other than here on RC? I have read almost all the plywood threads but what I am looking for is a thread similar to the Acrylics thread in the DIY forum. I am hunting somewhere that I can pick the brains of the plywood gurus on some questions I have about plywood tanks.

I read builds all over the web,and most everyone does basically the same (plywood-fiberglass-epoxy paint)but techniques and different styles are what makes them interesting :)

here is probable the best all around coverage of plywood tank building.......kent at finger lakes is the guru :) he has built wooden tanks that are 20 to 30 years old

monsterfishtanks.com has a bunch of wood builds

reefsanctuary.com has a few,me and Matt are helping out here a little :)

Thanks Willie. I am a long way off from even starting on building a tank but figured I could tag along with ones going on now (Yours and Matts) and start learning now and asking questions. I haven't really posted in this thread as I was reading and trying to learn just what was being done rather than asking questions. Although Matt may get tired of me before his is finished :)

I want a U shaped tank that sits in an office going around the wall. My desk will sit in the center of it so that when you walk in I will be surrounded by the tank. When I first came up with the idea, I had dimensions for a room but I have since had another back surgery, moved to a different house, and the dimensions will be determined after I move again (back has to recover and rehab first). I figure I can still ask questions, learn, and enjoy others tanks until I can build it.

ask anything any time, thats how we learn.....besides,if I can't answer it,I'll make something up :D

Matt wont get tired of you,he's very patient, and very knowledgeable about this stuff, just an all around good guy....I've bugged him to death with plumbing question an stuff through PMs....he's helped me more than he realizes :)

a U shaped tank...that would be nice,and I think it'd be doable
hope your back heals up,and you can get that tank started,I'd love to see it come to life :)

Thanks for the kind words. I've been learning from you too.

One Dumm Hikk, I posted a few links of some of the sites I researched, back on the other thread you were asking on, not sure if you've seen them yet. Ask all the questions you want, I'll also be glad to help anyway I can. This is my first plywood build, so we can all learn together. haha..

Anyone got a soft tissue I need wipe my glasses...I am not seeing anything at all.....must be the solar glare.......

How is that plumbing going?

well,I have water circulation but its not right,yet....got a lot of gurgling in the sump,I may have to choke/by-pass the pump down some....I'm looking for a fuge tank to add on,and maybe that'll divert some of the water flow and make it a little less noisy......

Yeah, that could help. Sounds like you have a lot of flow in the sump.

I would never have imagined that the Little Giant could move that much water, but I like it :D

my dad and step mom think I'll have the fish pinned to the wall with the hammerhead

I have built a temporary light rack to raise my lights with.........with all 4 MH's on,you can tell the center 2 lights are brighter than the 2 outer lights by the cross brace shadow.....the outer lights are using the odyssea ballasts and the original supposed to be 12k bulbs(more like 10k) ,the center lights are using the lumatek ballasts and the pheonix 14k bulbs

but at least,my lights are spread out more evenly now over the tank

Looks good.....So you decided to put the cross bracing in? Did you see what your deflection was first?

I figured it'd be stronger like I have it,I felt safer leaving them in.....actually I forgot that I was gonna check the deflection.....after I siliconed the glass in,I installed the top while the silicon was curring :D

That's cool.....at some point I'm going to get moving again on the tank....I'm going to try to forgo any cross bracing....I think my eurobracing and angle iron will negate it, but who knows.....Piece of mind is the most important thing.....
