Reef-A-Palooza returns to California October 10 & 11!

I think the point of the raffles is to draw people to the event, not so everyone can create a coordinated strategy for hitting certain raffles and avoiding others at specific times. these raffles get a bit competitive lol...

Agreed. However, for example, if I know I'll be there on Saturday from opening until 2pm, it would be nice to know which raffles are during that time period so I don't waste my money by putting my tickets towards raffles that I can't win.

IMO Rob it shouldn't matter how or when you coordinate to be there as long as you're there and buying raffle tix.

There are only 2 raffles on Sunday, and the last raffle is at 3pm. So you can participate in the earlier raffle.

There will not be a list with times for certain items.

If the items are out on the tables at the Raffle Area, they are for the upcoming drawing.

There will be awesome prizes in each of the raffles.

I was just using those times as an example. Thanks for the clarification on how it'll be run though.

Don't forget to arrive early to get your 2 Day Early Bird Entry Pass! Gain access to the show both days approx. :30 minutes before the public. Only $40

fair enough! those are valid points :)

I may actually participate in these raffles. i never buy tickets, I have horrible luck lol.

Valid but not good enough to do it. I may not agree but I respect SCMAS and their team. By not giving a schedule of raffle until you're there it helps keep people in the building which helps vendors to have as much traffic throughout the day to make money instead of coming for raffle and leaving. The vendors drop a lot of coin to participate in RAP. That's my guess.

It'd be nice though to have the complete list of raffle items and what day in advance to help the one day visitor decide on the day they want to come out. There might be great items each day of the raffle but it might not be what you're looking for. I also am not sure if these vendors are doubling up on the item so available both days.

I totally agree with the statement.
Not all of us have the leisure of being able to stay around the whole day or both days to wait for the raffles.
If we knew what day and time the raffles were at, we could plan accordingly.
Just my thought. :/

Some reasons for not having schedule of the raffle is that some items may be given that day and we will have to adjust accordingly. Some items pictured are in hand already and only provided as a way for what to expect in the raffle. RAP organizers sometimes want to make sure the items are equivalent for both days but this is something that they cannot control. Since these raffle items are growing and in a fluid manner, making a schedule is difficult, but am sure RAP organizers do understand your concern. What is available is the schedule for the speakers and their respective times. Understand that some vendors will make the opportunity to buy their product but not all.

Overall, the goal is to enjoy the show and be given the opportunity to win fabulous prizes at a low cost. Best things we can do as hobbyists is give tickets to friends in hopes of winning something on days you cannot come.

While we do appreciate the feedback, this is simply not feasible for a number of different reasons. Managing one of the largest raffles of any aquarium trade show in the country is a huge undertaking. As someone said above, many items are donated just prior or during the show, so we have to make changes accordingly to spread the wealth if you will.

Just my quick $.02. I was just curious as my schedule is 100% toddler dependant. I don't need a complete schedule of raffle items ahead of time. I only asked because I was curious about knowing what was coming up after I get there. My question was answered perfectly, that items would be displayed for the current, upcoming raffle.

Also want to say thanks for organizing this, and taking the time to inform a new guy like myself.

I know what it takes to put on a medium sized show. It's a huge undertaking. So I can only imagine what it takes to put on a show as big as this. I applaud what this club accomplishes each year at Reefapalooza. Good work fella's. See you on Sunday.

As you can see in my post Cody, I respect Greg and this organizing team a great deal and am not being critical of SCMAS. I think the way this is done, by not posting a schedule, helps the vendors out a great deal who without them there is no RAP. If I get there at 10 and want what's in a raffle at 3, well then, I need to stick around which only raises the odds I'll find something more I like and buy. But, for someone going only one day, it's a bit of an inconvenience to not be able to make an informed decision based on what's in the raffles in advance. Although vendors can add in at the last minute, it's still possible to list items set for raffle on Saturday and on Sunday prior without posting what auction it's in and with the disclosure that the lists not final and can change. In an earlier post after showing the Red Sea aquarium someone asked if this was going to be raffled Saturday or Sunday and was responded to "Sunday".

With that said, I agree with you and Chad/Mr. Brooks that this show is a huge undertaking and kudos to you all in advance because you've never put on a show that disappoints. Bravo to all of you!

In years past, the large tanks were always raffled on Sundays as they were display items in booths. However, to give others a chance to win and to make your own arrangements to transport a large tank in advance... we have veered away from that and instead spread them around between the raffles both Saturday and Sunday. We will note the item and raffle box and they will need to be picked up at closing Sunday. So if you win a display tank on Saturday, you will have to come back on Sunday to pick up your prize. I'm strictly speaking of tanks being used as displays in vendor booths.
