Reef Breeders group buy?

well it seems this is generating some interest and I guess it's easiest to post the prices here.. I assume its ok since all it takes is a pm to RB to get the prices.

Value: $150
Photon16: $250
Photon24: $280
Photon32: $400

I believe they will only ship to one address.. I live in springfield, ma but I travel around ct daily for work so meeting is pretty easy. I am in no super rush to order so I have no problem waiting a little bit to see if we get 12 units to qualify. I already orderd one of the photon32 before I even considered group buy but I still need another one.

Figured I would bump the group buy price post

They will ship to all addresses. I am in a group buy with Michigan reefers right now. Lol

Even better! I'm waiting for the response from them with all the details.. Thanks for chiming in!

So they will split up the group buy order to individual shipping addresses? (that doesn't seem to make sense - thought a group buy meant the vendor saves on shipping by sending the entire order to a single address). Just checking as I'm looking for a RB group buy but am on the West Coast (Ventura/ Ventura County area). Thanks.

I thought it was a little odd too so I asked them.. They will ship to individual addresses but for a fee.. He said $15-$20..

I am going to call reef breeders layer today and get more answers.. I noticed something last night about them though.. They are located in shelton, ct.. I'm down there occasionally so maybe we can save more by picking them up.?.?

The think about pricing on these is that they are price controlled like ecotech.. I even went to the vendor that makes them in Hong Kong and was quoted the same price as reef breeders.. $30-40-50 off are as good of pricing as your going to get..

Well, you quoted the correct info, however, I stand by my post...

IMO, that formula must be for 'custom made' layouts, it does not work for the reefbreeders layout

I wouldn't say that it is for "custom layouts" I've seen multiple people that have used 2 24" photons with good results in a 72" tank. I feel like it is your tank that is off the norm since that tank is a god damn monster. You would also need 2 rows of lights on a tank that wide. With my tank being 72x18.5x20 I only need one row.

As for your matter at hand. It's hard to day since your tank is almost as wide as most people's is long. You could technically mount 24" photons sideways and cover it that way. I would say you could get away with 6 which would give you 306 LEDs.

Edit: that is mounting regularly, not sideways.

ACtually, on second thought you would need way more than 6. I think the fixtures are only 8" wide. so you would need like 4 rows of 3. Probably cheaper to just get a smaller tank. lol

I pass through Shelton every day, I wouldn't mind doing a pick up and then meeting everyone at a more central location, if that helps at all.

i will gladly pay the extra for sh my own individual shipping... and i would like to pay them my own portion direct if possible...

definately count me in for a photon 16... i might get a custom layout if possible... so i will contact them for that info...

anyone thinking of these leds, Bob has one and we have tested his PAR at multiple levels of light output, in both small tanks and larger... at various depths in the water column... these things work great and were an incredible price IMO to begin with, then another fat chunk off of that if we all get together and do it? really not something to be passed up if your looking for quality units at a great price, and then a large discount on top of that...

im sold on them personally and they fit my budget...

Like Neal said we tested my photon24 on my 40 breeder and on his 180 and we were both incredibly impressed. With 90° optics and at 100% power the par was over 400 on the sand bed of my breeder and well over 100 on the sand bed of Neal's 180. They definitely work great and you really can't beat the price, especially if there is enough for a group buy

And remember, it's actually more becuz, the blue LEDs don't register as much on a par meter as they should.. Roughly add, from what I've read and been told, 25 to 30 percent of the blues PAR output alone, on top of the total par reading...

The par readings on my sand (180g) were over 150 If i remember correctly... Great fixture... My goal is 3 over my 180g... But I can only afford one for now, lol...

This post is directed to the definite buyers;

I have received a few pm's about waiting until after ffm.. I'm fine with the wait but I think it has to be consensus.. Does anyone object with waiting another week and a half or so to put in the order? As I see it now we are only waiting on one more fixture to meet criteria... Is anyone in a rush to receive? Thanks

I'm fine til waiting until after FFM... I am willing to commit until a week or two after the event... If it drags out too long, I will purchase separetely as I do need a light soon... But for the next 3 weeks or so, definitly count me in...

(1) 16" photon unit

Ok I just talked to Logan at reef breeders.. Since the unit I ordered still isn't in to be shipped, I am canceling my previous order and ordering in the group buy.. Either 2 X photon32 or 3 X photon16.. It didn't seem like he was very open to the idea of picking them up in shelton, I'm guessing they are drop shipped.. Anyway, individually can be shipped to those of you who want it.. Any others for free shipping would ship to me.. I know a few live around me and pick up will be very easy. I drive around ct daily for work.. Mostly hartford and surrounding by a few towns. I'm positive that meeting up wouldn't be too hard.

It seems like after ffm will work.. No one is vocal about getting them immediately.. We can however put the order together sooner and start the ball rolling.. He would send out PayPal invoices to each person.. Our order would not be ordered until everyone in our group has paid..

In for 2 photon24 or my 155 gallon bowfront! Btw what does it mean 60 90 and 120 optics? Which should I get?

I'm gonna recommend the 90s because they are a great all around optic. They give you good spread and good penetration. The different optics are like different size magnifying glasses on the end of each led. The smaller the number the tighter the beam of light.
