Reef Bugs live food

Has anyone used the product called "Reef Bugs"? It is suppose to replicate actual marine snow. The added microbes become "live" in 30 minutes and are consumed by corals, etc.

It costs $21.89 at That Fish Place in Lancaster.

Any experiences (good or bad) with this product before I spend money on it?

I've used the product, couple years ago. Personally, I never saw anything more "coming alive" in my tank. However, to be fair, I did not do a control test (IE, put some of the cysts [thats what the reef bugs supposedly are] into a closed container and come back in a couple of hours to see if it became alive). Personally, I think a person can do better getting other already live foods, like rotifers/copepods/phytoplankton, or if you want a marine snow type application and don't care about live, go for spray dried foods instead.

Just my experience. I think it's more hype than anything else.

I've never used ReefBugs myself, but I am along the thinking of BetterMetalReef--- I would rather go with something I know for sure is alive and well, instead of something that has a big question mark inside it.

I bought them on the advice from my LFS that they would be good food for a Mandarin. Waste of money IMO. The mandarin didn't go anywhere near the stuff. Nothing really did. My clowns would eat it and spit it back out. Not to mention that following the directions and soaking the stuff leaves the tank crazy cloudy for a few hours after you pour it in. I would usually just sprinkle it over the surface and watch it sink. Honestly I think it's snake oil. I've had better luck with live food and frozen stuff.
