First of all, I'd like to apologize, I do not speak English and I use the Google translator, so there might be some errors in my writing...
I began to build this reef on 12/20/2006, in Brazil it is more complicated to do it, everything is more expensive. For you to have an idea: an Achilles Tang costs US$500,00, a Deltec skimmer AP701 costs US$ 1.500,00 the import taxes are too high and leadt to that situation.
About the reef: it is 2.80m height x 0, 60m width x 0,50m large, the lighting has 6 110w 4K lamp tubes and 4 80W T5 Geisemann actinics, the return from the sump is done by a pump of 8 thousand liters per hour and the internal movement is performed by 3 Boyu wave maker pumps .
I harvest the live rock in my houesyard (laughs), I live in an island and I believe that my reef is good because of these live rocks and the amount I used, about 200kg. I used a quartz sand substrate that is commonly present in swimming pool filters, it is inert and does not have silicates.
I am also a moderator of a know aquaristic forum, www.reefcorner.org for 3 years I've been visiting ReefCentral daily to see the assemblies and to try to read some of the articles, always looking for new ideas.
My first marine aquarium dated back in 1995, after that I was more than 10 years only with freshwater aquariums. At this new beginning I had no idea what had changed in the marine aquaristics and I had to look into the web forums. I do not use a calcium reactor, but a direct replacement with tap water, the water here on the island is very good and has no phosphate or nitrate.
Now to the pictures, at the beginning I used a simple camera and now I'm using a Canon 20D.
The reef has a 300 liters refugium and a 250 liters sump, adding up to a total of 1.200 liters of water, currently I use a ETS 1000 skimmer and a UV filter of 40 watts from boyu and a 1HP chiller.
I go snorkelling about 4 times a week, I give very fresh live food for the fishes, like mysis, much of it caught during the night!
