Reef Ilhabela I

I came with the zanclus midnight at home, 1 hour of morning I was diving to get him to eat sponges, morning when the fish had 4 different types of sponges to choose what I eat

Wow I feel like a lazy schmuck for not wanted to do a 20 Gallon water change last night after reading that quote lol.

The tank looks fantastic, congratulations! Your hard work has obviously paid off.

but my experience with the zanclus was very bad, I became a slave of the fish, had to dive straight to get the sponges and he ate nothing else, was the day that water was very dirty and I had to dive to find the sponges.
I have 4 pipes fish that are with me for 3 years to have direct mating ritual of the reef

I am sorry for the mistakes of writing

great photos of the pipes and their 'behavior'

do you dive/fish for fresh 'mariscos' everyday ???
:D

you make working w/ glass look easy!
seems you made the sump also?... we prefer glass (over acrylic) and after seeing your photos - has me itching to perhaps try my hand at making a new sump out of glass...

thanks for sharing the pics... no problem on the language either.

regards

now during the summer I have to work more and can not diving, then give the mysis are frozen, seafood and I get to serve in the restaurant, also usually give fresh tuna and salmon, here in front of my restaurant has a sushi bar and has fresh fish every day, within my sump I always keep large live crabs and from time to time to kill just to eat meat for fish.
for Chelmon rostratus I try to do a mass with frozen shrimp ground, salmon and diet of spirulina to feed him better, he likes to eat in your hand, then it is easy to eat a food with more protein.

this album is a sequence of pictures of an aquarium as a paste using elastic and sticks to teeth, to the sump the project is the same and do not need to put locks on top of the aquarium, because of the divisions will serve as a sump support for the windows do not open

Matias Ilhabela
thank you for posting the 'montagem' of the tank assembly - makes it look easy... might price out some glass to see what it would cost in contrast say to buying acrylic (for sump)... not too bad w/ diy stuff (around the house atleast) but it always is a matter of the TIME it takes to diy (and a lot of 'expletives' in the process  ) VS simply going out and buying something already made... the nice thing is that (like what you have done) - once one has the skills - they can simply make/customize to any design/size/dimension they choose!... have seen a few others around RC diy glass tanks (as well as many acrylic) and it always has had me 'curious' about doing it myself... seeing you diy such a huge tank (and making it look easy!) - almost gives me the inspiration to get one done myself ;)

best regards

here in Brazil the Acrylic would cost 4 times the value of the glass, so only built with glass, and we do not have windows that I see as the Starphire reef in central, and must take care of the windows with protective layer against risks, here in Brazil this type of glass does not adhere to silicone and reef opens.

feeding the coral, also feed the trumpets, acanthastrea and euphyllias.

Yesterday was cleaning day at the reef, every 6 months I aspire all substrate to remove organic matter compressed, also aspire the live rock to remove the dust in first week hope 150 liters of water and dirty and play outside and with a full newly collected water, and after some days I repeat the operation.
I know I should not poke the substrate, because we have bacteria that can not be exposed to the oxygen of water, but I always do that and never had problems, I have a very big Refugium of 300 liters with 50 kg of live rock, about 200 more kg within the reef, and every 3 months I have a new inoculation of bacteria using a bit of sand collected in the sea, put some 50 grams of sand.
well put new colonies of bacteria within the reef

Great stuff!

I love the diversity of this tank. So much life...I wish I could find just half of the inverts you have for my tank.

My fiances parents are from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean and also dive to collect all their livestock. They also have a very diverse and healthy tank like this.

Can't wait to see more!

Impressive!! Thanks for all the photographs of the unusual critters you have access to that we in the US do not. Very cool thread.

thank you for the compliments
My Montipora grew and began to shadow the anemone,
who decided to stretch to catch a light
and began to burn the Montipora and Valida
but the basis it is in a hole and I have to take, I think I will have to cut off her.
the place she has not put a bomb as the basis for pointing to her leaving the place
