Reef octopus pump noise

what a POS company, file a small claims suit against them in your home town, then he will have to either fix it or fly to your town for a court hearing. :) that will get his attention.

Haha, yeah maybe he would start showing some of his customers who just spent their hard earned money in his product some respect. I was completly shocked by how low the PRESIDENT of a company would go in the email he sent to the man helping me at aquacave. I guess it just goes to show that some companies are in it for the money, and some are in it for the customers and their reputation.

Did you use a credit card?

Return it. It has a 6 month warranty on body. 1 year on the pump. Both are defective.

For the record honya (who makes them in china) makes great products.

Call them and ask to file because when you purchase a new product you are also purchasing its warranty. Since he declined to honor your warranty see if they will do a charge back.

I like aquacave and recommend them a lot. I hate to tell you to charge them back but it's his responsibility as a retailer to take care of you. They are not, so charge them back... if you can.

yeah, I like aquacave aswell. I have always enjoyed doing buisness with them, except for this problem. I'd hate to charge back the good guys, but like you said i ordered the product and along with that comes the warrenty. I did use a credit card, and will keep your idea in mind. I have a feeling returning it and just buying a new skimmer will be quicker than whatever trick david has up his sleeve. He'll obviously stall as much as possible, which means my tank would just be going longer without a skimmer.

My octo nwb150 skimmer too is making rattling noise in the sump. I decided to open the pump connection so removed it and put it in a bucket of water. Disconnected pump,
I didnt know how to open it fully so I can check the impeller, but opened the inlet /outlet knobs...saw nothing wrong no debris. Flushed them , ran pump alone. Put it back up , ran skimmer in bucket for 1hr, there was no noise. Then I put it in the sump and here is what happened:

There was no noise initially. After a few mins it slowly started as a minor 'rrrr" and then to a loud intermittent "RRRR" . It increases as the water fills
up the column! After some time I lifted the skimmer by 2", the noise reduced a tiny bit. This time I made sure that I can see the pump clearly near the glass. when the sound is bad and intermittent, the pump doesnt choke nor there is any visible interuption in the bubble/jet flow from pump into skimmer.

Trouble is , even by moving ,shifting I cant figure whats causing the vibration. Wonder if its an issue with resonance? As Mike suggested I can try mousepads but clueless where to put them.

My 15gT is sitting on top of 2 (stacked)wooden pieces. Each 3 ftlong,1.5" thick and 12"wide. Could it be that the base is not very stable?
How do I id /fix the problem?
Pls share :)
Thanks-kris

k so here is what casuses this - ive gone through two pumps in 6 months, my first pump , the spacers on the impeller shaft wore off and after a couple weeks the shaft disintegrated into many pieces... second pump i got was fine til now... i think its just a bad pump in general.. it has problems restarting, the impeller is horible.. i feel like i wasted my money for sure...

ouch thats messed up man im very sorry to hear this. i swear its so hard to find good companies now days that take care of their customers. best way to find the gems is to weed out the bs. unfortunately this happens in a wide variety of shops from auto shops to electronics its just sad to see people in our own country get over on us to gain a dollar.
